This summer, Shaler Area Track and Field is excited to offer a brand-new training opportunity: Shaler Area Track and Field & Cross Country booster organization, hosted at Titan Stadium and led by Coach Ryan and Coach Filo along with the Shaler Area Track & Field and Cross Country Staff and district approved volunteers.
This 6-week program is designed to improve maximum velocity through low-volume, high-intensity sessions aimed at reducing 40-yard & 60-yard dash times and increasing overall speed. These workouts are ideal for young athletes preparing for explosive competition in fall, winter, or spring sports—any sport where top-end speed is a critical advantage. It will also help introduce track and field training methods for young athletes that want to learning how to be a runner at an earlier age.
Because of the low-volume structure, the program complements other practices (especially evening technical sessions) and can be modified to accommodate athletes who are splitting time between multiple workouts or practices.
The Shaler Area Track and Field Running Development Program, operated by the Shaler Area Track and Field & Cross Country booster organization, is committed to fostering a lifelong interest in running and athletic development for students entering grades 4–6. Through structured, high-quality coaching and individualized support, our mission is to provide a fun, educational, and developmentally appropriate introduction to speed training and running fundamentals.
Our long-term goal is to build a sustainable and competitive youth track and field program. In Year 1, we lay the foundation with a running-focused program emphasizing sprint mechanics, speed development, and personal growth. By Year 2, we aim to expand the curriculum to include a broader range of track and field disciplines such as jumps and throws, culminating in opportunities for participants to compete in local spring and summer meets.
Through this program, we aspire to develop not only athletic skills but also confidence, sportsmanship, and a sense of community in our young athletes—preparing them for future success on and off the track.
