Frank and Ruth Myers signed over their house to the State of Ohio in 1969 for the Shaker Historical Society to “use and occupy the subject premises as a museum, library and historical site.”
This legal document outlined the agreement between the State of Ohio and the Shaker Historical Society for the “operation, management and maintenance” of the Myers house as a museum dedicated to preserving the history of Ohio Shaker communities and Northeast Ohio. Today the museum focuses on the history of the North Union Shakers, Warrensville Township, and the development of Shaker Heights from its founding to the present.
These suitcases were used by Frank and Ruth Myers, who donated their house and many of their belongings to the Shaker Historical Society in 1969. The suitcases were used by the Myers to travel all over the world, and some of their destinations can be found on the stickers that cover the trunks.
