Welcome!

9 Honors Language and Literature

Mrs. Wasserman

Hi everyone! Welcome back to school! I’m Mrs. Wasserman and I am so excited to be your teacher this year. I love all things English, but I especially love reading and talking about books. My goal for the past few years has been to read a book a week, but that’s hard to do when you’re an English teacher with essays to grade. I grew up on the West side of Cleveland and I graduated from Heidelberg University. For my first few years as a teacher, I taught middle and high school English in a small town in Indiana. This is my 2nd year at Shaker! I teach 9 honors L&L as well as two theatre classes: playwriting and film. You will learn a ton of new things this year, but I will as well! I can’t wait to see everything that you will teach me—you’ll be helping me learn more about you and how to be the best teacher I can be. I am confident that we will have so much fun this year, just as long as we can keep a culture of respect for everyone, stay positive, and do everything with integrity. If you ever need to get a hold of me, you can send me a Remind message (we’ll get to that later this week!) or email me at wasserman_m@shaker.org. If you need a response in a hurry, the best bet is to reach me through Remind since the notification will pop up on my phone. Please know that my door is always open and that I can’t wait to get to know each of you more. I love to go to your games/concerts/etc. and see you in your element. Let me know your schedule and I’ll try to come watch whatever it is that you love to do! A little about me. My husband and I live on the West side but we’re around town often - Van Aken is one of my favorite spots! We have a goldendoodle (Olive) who I’ll probably talk about all the time. My favorite book to teach is a tie between The Kite Runner and To Kill a Mockingbird because both have a way of sparking discussion through their ability to bring the reader into the story. On weekends I love going to see musicals (In The Heights is my favorite by far), watching Cleveland sports, and trying out new coffee shops. This year will be a crazy adventure, but I can’t wait to see what it has in store for us. Get ready to learn, explore, create, question, and make memories that will last a lifetime. You will change the world!
Sincerely,Mrs. Wasserman:)
