Safer Internet Day

Tuesday, 7th February 2023 - “Want to talk about it? Making space for conversations about life online”

The Safer Internet Day slogan for this year is “Want to talk about it? Making space for conversations about life online.”  From gaming and chat, to streaming and video, young people are shaping the interactive entertainment spaces they are a part of. Safer Internet Day 2023 celebrates young people’s role in creating a safer internet, whether that is whilst gaming and creating content, or interacting with their friends and peers.

At Shaftesbury Park everyone has a role to play in creating a better online world - especially now when the majority of families regularly use and rely on devices that are connected to the internet. Please view our Online Safety Policy.

Parents / Carers

You play a crucial role in empowering and supporting children and young people to use digital technologies responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively. Indeed, parental influence, guidance and education have a significant and long-lasting impact on children’s safety and wellbeing in the online world. Therefore, there are plenty of ways for you to participate in Safer Internet Day, whether it is by ensuring an open dialogue with your children, educating them to use digital technologies safely and positively, or acting as digital role models.

Children

You are the main target of Safer Internet Day why not make your voices heard on matters relating to your safety and wellbeing in the online world. You can do this by contacting your national Safer Internet Centre or Safer Internet Day Committee and getting involved in their youth participation schemes, to becoming an advocate of Safer Internet Day in school and within your friendship groups. You can also be the change you want to see in the (online) world by being kind and respectful to others online, by protecting your online reputation and that of others, and by seeking out positive opportunities to create, engage and share online. STAFF

You can get involved in Safer Internet Day. Firstly, the most important way is to raise awareness – is to make sure Shaftesbury Park school community is a place where children are able to learn about internet safety, a safe space to talk about their online experiences and think of ways in which online safety can be initiated in school and at home.  At Shaftesbury Park we make sure all staff are aware of and can confidently teach about internet safety, she assess the children on their understanding and then use this to frame our internet safety computing lesson.
