ALL of the following must be true to qualify:
Commercial building with a current Shafter business license
Business located within the triangle defined by Shafter Avenue, Central Valley Highway, and Lerdo Highway
Work to be reimbursed has NOT yet begun (future projects only)
Applicant is the property owner OR tenant with written owner permission
No outstanding city fees, taxes, or code violations on the property
Proposed project will meet all state and local building & zoning
Exterior improvements that enhance the appearance of the building and are visible from public streets are eligible. Eligible improvements include:
Restoration/rehabilitation of buildings exterior wall(s) facing public streets, alleys, or parking lots.
Front entrances and facades
Signage (as part of an overall improvement project)
Doors and windows (as part of an overall improvement project)
Wall treatments (painting, acid washes, etc.)
Architectural details (light fixtures, awnings, etc. as part of an overall project)
Rear entrance accessibility and paving
Building additions meeting local codes and program guidelines
Painting the building
The program does not cover:
Roof repair
Inventory or operating costs
Temporary decorations
Work completed before grant approval
Complete the façade application and the supporting documents, and submit them to the City of Shafter Building Department window at 336 Pacific Avenue.
City staff review for compliance with ordinances and eligibility.
Complete and approved applications will be notified in writing, prioritized by the order they were received.
Applicants may appeal decisions to the City Planning Commission.
Your application packet must include:
"Before" photos of the current façade
Concept sketch/elevation or color rendering
Itemized budget with at least two contractor estimates
Owner permission letter (if applicant is tenant)
Completed and signed application form
You should submit completed application packets in person to the City of Shafter - Building Department window located at 336 Pacific Avenue, Shafter, CA 93263. Their hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.
Each business may receive a grant award of 50% of eligible costs up to $10,000 per address.
Funds are reimbursed after the project completion. You must submit a written request, along with invoices and receipts. Only approved expenses will be reimbursed
Grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
