Our Story

The Music Immersion Experience (MIE) Program at Roosevelt Elementary School aims to provide every student with a comprehensive and high-quality music education. Our program fosters creativity, collaboration, and a deep appreciation for music, allowing students to explore their musical talents and develop a lifelong passion for the arts.

How does the Program work?

The MIE program consists of a "fundamental period," which all students participate in automatically, and an "elective period," which students in the 1st-5th grade can optionally participate in. If students stay the full program day, they can also participate in an additional class called "MIE Extra".

Staff

There are 10 part time Resident Artists and 4 Assistants currently on the MIE staff.  The MIE program is administered by the ELOP Site Coordinator, Sara Jones, ELOP director, Jumana Rose, SGUSD Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator, Samantha Theisen, and Roosevelt Elementary Principal, Cheryl Wilson.

Support

The Music Immersion Program at Roosevelt Elementary is supported by the San Gabriel Unified School District. SGUSD considers the subject of Music to be a vital part of our students' well rounded education, and it is greatly supported by the school district on all levels.  The MIE Program at Roosevelt Elementary School is proudly funded by the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP). This funding allows us to provide high-quality music education and resources to all our students, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to participate and benefit from our program. Additional Support through a grant has been generously provided by the D'Addario Foundation.
