Media Material Appeals Process
Complete the Media Material Appeals Process.
The Media Material Appeal will be forwarded to an appeals committee, consisting of the Assistant Superintendent, an administrator, one member of the teaching staff, two parents, a member of the Board of Education, and a library media specialist or media paraprofessional.
A hearing by the appeals committee will be scheduled within ten business days of receipt of the Media Material Appeal for the complainant to present their concern.
The appealed media materials will be reviewed by the committee and will consider the weight of the concern and the material’s educational role in the school district, in conformance with the criteria for selection listed in the district's selection policy. Appealed media materials will stay in circulation pending the committee’s decision.
The written decision of the committee will be forwarded to the superintendent, who will notify the complainant of the committee’s decision in writing within five (5) business days. If the media material is part of board-approved district curriculum, the material will be referred to the Curriculum Committee for the final decision. For all other materials, the decisions of this committee shall be considered final.
