Tips for taking care of your chromebook.
Tip 1: Keep your Chromebook on a flat surface like a table or a desk. Don’t leave it on the floor where someone could step on it.
Tip 2: Don’t pile things on top of your Chromebook. Chromebooks aren’t meant to hold weight, any extra pressure can break the screen.
Tip 3: Make sure there isn’t anything on the keyboard when you close your Chromebook. Even something as small as a pencil or an eraser can break the screen if it’s in the way.
Tip 4: Keep food and drinks away from your Chromebook and make sure your hands are clean. Crumbs and liquids are very bad for your Chromebook and can cause it to stop working properly.
Tip 5: Always make sure your Chromebook is closed when you carry it and always use two hands.
Tip 6: Plug your Chromebook in when you’re not using it that way it will be charged and ready for when you need it.
Tip 7: If your Chromebook does break make sure you tell your teacher, parent, or email studenthelp@sgate.k12.mi.usright away. The longer you wait the worse the problem could get. Don’t try to fix it yourself let the Technology Department handle it.
Tip 8: Remember to take care of yourself online. Be sure to stay on approved websites, keep your password private, and log off when you’re done. Remember anything that happens under your account is your responsibility.

Then, click “Proceed anyway” This will clear the old locally cached data for the user, and re-sync new user data from the cloud
What are the potential repair or replacement fees associated with the Chromebook?
Please see the Care and Usage Handbook located in the Resources section for detailed information on repairs.
Is content filtered on the 1-to-1 Chromebooks when they are connected to the Internet?
Yes, the chromebooks have filtering software installed, however, no filter can replace parental supervision. Student internet access will be filtered via our district's web filter, both on campus and when connected to school WIFI as well as when at home.
What do I do if my student’s Chromebook is not working properly
If your Chromebook is having issues, turn it off and then on again.
You can also perform a reset by pressing REFRESH + POWER. This fixes a lot of issues, including screen not turning on, computer acting sluggish, locked up, etc.
If these do not fix your issues, please send an email to: studenthelp@southgateschools.com
Please provide as much detail as possible including the red asset tag number found on the bottom of your Chromebook.
Attach screenshots or pictures if able.
What if I do not have home internet connection?
Please see the following sites for home internet resources:
Comcast Internet Essentials. (Comcast is currently providing free public WIFI, see their site for more information)
Additional options may be found here at Wayne Resa's site for home internet access
Will the Chromebooks be password protected?
All student devices require an @sgate.k12.mi.us email to log in. Students will have to know their student email and password to be able to access information stored on their device and Google Drive.
What happens if my Chromebook gets damaged, lost, or stolen?
Students and/or parents should immediately notify administration if the Chromebook is irreparably damaged, lost, or stolen. In the event that a Chromebook is intentionally damaged, the student/parent will be charged up to the cost of repair or full replacement of the Chromebook. Please see handbook for more details.
For all other repairs please submit a repair ticket my emailing studenthelp@sgate.k12.mi.us.
