The idea behind the Calm Spot is for students to re-evaluate their emotions and reactions BEFORE needing the center. In their home district, they will not have the center for behaviors. The goal is to help them self-regulate. If you have a student that is using the calm spot every day in your class, a discussion with the individual/SW would be beneficial to initiate a discussion of why they use it often.
When students are using the calm spot, not as intended- meaning work avoidance, sleeping, silliness etc- here are some helpful strategies that might work:

If students are not using calm spot as intended (to self regulate) and are sleeping, making noises, being silly, throwing things- it then becomes a behavior with w redir/brk/center

If the absence is EXCUSED, you are correct. The next day they are present after the AE, they would have that day to complete the Tier 1 criteria.
If a student is AU, that DOES count towards the three days they have to complete Tier 1.
Tier 1.
The student's Social Worker will create an individual plan for that student.
They would be on Tier 2, as they did not meet the requirements to come off of Tier 1.
No. An out of school suspension trumps the refocus plan, and acts as the consequence. When the student returns to school, they will NOT be placed on a tier.
