Dear Families,
Welcome to my class!
I am very excited to be a part of our family here at St. Francis Xavier School. Let me share with you some of my background. I have a BS in Management from U-Mass Boston. During my time working in the business world and volunteering with youth activities, I was inspired to return to school to become an educator. I attended Lesley University and obtained my teaching certificate in 1998. I have a Massachusetts Department of Education certification in Grades 1-6.
I began my teaching journey as a fifth grade teacher at St. Francis Xavier Preparatory School in Hyannis. While teaching at that school, I obtained my Masters of Education from Lesley University. Five years later, I traveled to Nantucket Elementary School and taught fifth grade. After four years, I returned to the Cape and taught sixth grade in a self-contained classroom at Chatham Middle School for eight years.
When Harwich and Chatham merged into the Monomoy School District, I was fortunate to be able to transfer to Harwich Elementary School and return to my love of the elementary school environment. I remained there for three years as a second grade teacher.
Six years ago after traveling on a pilgrimage to Medjugorje with my husband, I felt a nudge from God calling me to return to Catholic Education. After a year of prayer and discernment, I decided to leave public school and answer His call. God led me here to St. Francis Xavier. This will be my fifth year teaching third grade.
W. B. Yeats captured the exhilaration of teaching when he wrote: "Education is not the filling of the pail, but the lighting of the fire". My goal as an educator is to ignite in my learners a passion for learning ascertaining their inner strengths, abilities given by God, and discovering what truly inspires them.
Each day, both students and staff will continue to inspire me. I am honored and grateful to be a part of the SFX family as I celebrate my 26th year of teaching!
When I am not in school, you'll find me spending time with my husband and my best friend of 33 years, our four sons, their sweethearts, our grandaughter, and of course, our pug. I also enjoy traveling, singing, reading, biking and theater.
