Announcements 3/10
Good afternoon 3rd grade families,
Just a few announcements for this week:
We will take our class pictures tomorrow. Students are asked to wear their uniforms and look their best!
Reminder that tomorrow is the Chipotle lunch for those who raised enough money from the Fun Run.
Our next spelling test will be Monday, 3/16 due to the shortened week. It will be the first spelling test for the new term.

Announcements 3/6
Good afternoon 3rd grade families,
I have a few announcements for this week:
Reminder that we have no school Monday, March 9th. It is a professional day for teachers.
We are starting to run low again on tissues and paper towels. If you happen to be at the store this weekend, I would definitely appreciate class donations. :)
I have had a few students asking about their Scholastic orders and when they are coming in. I have been submitting the orders as they come in and I have not seen any new orders on my end. I am wondering if there was a tech issue. Please let me know if you submitted an order that has not come in yet, so that we can figure it out together.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Announcements 3/3

We will have a $2 dress down day on Friday as a donation to a local pregnancy center.
Please let me know if you have any questions!

Announcements 2/27
Good afternoon 3rd grade families,
As I said yesterday, I am so excited to get back to school! I wanted to give a heads up that we will be moving into next week full speed ahead. We have to push things a bit faster than usual, due to the missed time from this week, which means there will be a lot of testing. Because of this, I am going to push our math timed assessment forward to Thursday, instead of Friday.
Here is the schedule:
Thursday (3/5): Math chapter assessment and timed multiplication test
Friday (3/6): Vocab test and spelling test
I will be handing out a math study guide for the math test on Thursday. That study guide will be due Wednesday, so that we can go over it in class.
Please let me know if you have any questions/concerns.
Have a great weekend!

SAL Day 2/27
Good evening 3rd grade families,
I am attaching the SAL work for Friday (2/27):
Reading: Review yesterday's "Running Rivals" story. List details and ideas from Running Rivals that tell about the rivalry between Amy and Madison. Note what the girls learn from their rivalry. (5 sentences)
Grammar: IXL skill: Identify verbs in the regular past tense
Math: IXL skill: Multiplication facts to 12
I am so glad that this is our last day off for the time-being. I miss seeing your children's smiling faces and I cannot wait to be back Monday.
Please reach out with any questions/concerns and stay safe!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Bridget Eddlem
SAL Day 2/26
Good afternoon 3rd grade families,
Who would have thought that we would have four additional days at home after February break?? I hope that you have all been safe amidst this storm.
I am adding the SAL work for tomorrow (Thursday 2/26) below.
If you have any issues opening the attached pdfs, I have also added them to your child's Google classroom. If you are still having issues accessing them, please let me know and I will email them to you directly.
Reading: Read "Running Rivals" (attached PDF) and respond to the three questions at the end of the story on a loose leaf sheet.
Math: Find a household object for each of the shapes on the Quadrilaterals document (attached PDF):
Quadrilateral
Trapezoid
Parallelogram
Rectangle
Rhombus
Square
Kite
Write down on a loose leaf sheet which object you found for each shape and draw a picture. Note: The object does not have to look exactly like the shapes on this document, as long as it still matches its attributes.
I will ask that students return these assignments when we return. Again, I completely understand that some of you may still not have power and your children will not be able to complete these assignments tomorrow. Please let me know, if possible, if this is the case.
I will be back in touch tomorrow if we have an additional SAL Day on Friday.
Have a wonderful day!

Announcements 2/2
Good afternoon 3rd grade families,
I have a few announcements for this week:
Tomorrow is not an Inspo dress-down day. Instead, those who fundraised enough money for the Fun Run will have a spirit wear/silly socks and sneakers day. Hopefully, we will do an Inspo Day later in the year.
We will have a reading test this week, so students can study vocab for the test this Wednesday.
We are continuing with spelling and timed tests this week.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions.
Have a great week!

Announcements 1/29
Good afternoon 3rd grade families,
I have a few brief announcements:
Tomorrow is the last day to donate to the Fun Run, in order to get prizes.
Tomorrow is also a fundraiser for our 8th grade class. They are doing a Hershey kiss guessing jar with $1 per guess and $5 maximum. This will be for tomorrow only.
After looking through the reading tests last week, we are taking some time to review. I am giving students a chance to correct their answers to get some points back on their tests. This is why reading tests were not sent home last week and will not be sent home this week. We will be correcting them in class tomorrow and I will send home the original and corrected version next week.
As of right now, we are planning on having school Monday. However, if there is a snow day Monday, it will be another SAL day. I heard from some students and parents that some of the IXL activities were a struggle, so we are going to stick to paper for this one. I am sending home a SAL packet (printed on pink paper, so it stands out) in Friday folders this week. If we have a SAL day, please have your child complete the packet. If there is no SAL day, please send the paper back incomplete. We will use this for classwork on that Monday.
Reminder: We are celebrating Valentine's Day on Friday, February 13th. Due to allergies, we are going to stick to just cards, please. However, we will be doing party-in-a-bag so that students can still have a treat. Please send in one salty snack and one sweet snack for just your student.
Please let me know if you have any questions/concerns.
Have a wonderful rest of your week!
Bridget Eddlem

All work will be due Wednesday morning 1/28. :)

Please also remember that the Fun Run is on for Friday. Prizes will be handed out starting Wednesday. Donations for our care packages can also be handed in on Wednesday 1/28.

Announcements 1/23/26
Good afternoon 3rd grade families,
I wanted to send a few announcements:
SFX is collecting donations to give to the homeless. Third grade is being asked to collect winter hats and fruit cups. These items will be collected this Monday, 1/26. In the event of a snow day Monday, they will be collected on Tuesday.
In the event of a snow day Monday, there are two possibilities: a traditional snow day with no work at home or a SAL Day, where students will complete work at home. In the event of a SAL day, I will send an email with the SAL Day work and it will be posted on our class website on the Announcements page by 8am on Monday 1/26.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Have a wonderful weekend and stay safe!

Announcements 1/20/26
Good afternoon 3rd grade families,
I have a few announcements for this week:
There will be a reading assessment tomorrow, that will include this week's vocab. There was a tech issue on the website this weekend but it has been fixed and should be all set. Please let me know if you encounter any issues.
The new spelling list has been posted. We are working toward writing our entire spelling test in cursive by the end of the year. The first step is that students will take their test this week in print. However, I will ask them to write cursive next to their print word for numbers #1-5 on the test. Hopefully, this will help us ease our way in. Working on this at home would be appreciated. :)
Our chapter 5 math assessment will be Thursday the 22nd.
We are starting our multiplication timed tests (2 minutes for 40 questions) this Friday. We will take two tests this week: One on 0s-1s tables and one on the 2s tables. If students do not get 100% this week, they will repeat this timed test the following week. If they get 100%, they will move onto the 3s tables next week. (Apologies: I am not going to continue updating the times tables on the website after this week, since students may be focusing on different times tables on any given week.) I am providing index cards to make flash cards and study for this week. Starting next week, I am asking that you pick up some index cards for the rest of the math facts or make flash cards out of paper at home.
I am excited to announce that our multiplication incentive is a class ice cream party! We are working with Acushnet Creamery to have our party on Friday, May 1st. With each new times table mastered, students will earn a new topping for their ice cream. The list of toppings will be included in the attached letter. Please reach out if you have any allergy-related questions or concerns.
I realize this is A LOT of information, so please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
Have a wonderful week,
Bridget Eddlem
Announcements 1/16/26
Good afternoon 3rd grade families,
I have a few announcements for the upcoming weeks including one very important announcement:
IMPORTANT:
The anchor charts and tools on our class website site are great supports for getting started, but now it is time for students to recall their facts quickly and confidently without using those supports. Knowing multiplication facts automatically is essential for success as we move forward into more advanced math skills.
This being said, I am here to support you in reviewing these facts at home. Here are some steps that will be taken going forward:
1. I will hand out index cards on Tuesday to the class and students will make flash cards for homework to study the times table(s) of the week. The times tables for the week will be posted on the same section of the class website as our spelling and vocab words.
2. We will be doing timed tests every Friday, like we do with spelling tests. I realize that these can be a pain but they are necessary and will put students into the routine of regularly studying their math facts.
3.We will have a class incentive for students to study their math facts. I will email with more information Tuesday in order to keep this a surprise for the kids. :)
Students should have gotten the schedule for Catholic Schools Week and information about the Fun Run in their green folders today. Please let me know if you have any questions!
We have a daily routine of practicing math on our whiteboards. Because of this many students' expo marker supply is running very low. Please check in with your child to see if they need anymore for their supply.
Now that flu season is upon us, we could definitely use more tissues. If you happen to be at the store and are able to pick some up, it would be greatly appreciated. :)
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
I hope to see many of you tonight at Mary Poppins. If I don't see you, have a wonderful weekend!
Bridget Eddlem
Announcements 12/30/25
Good morning 3rd grade families,
Merry Christmas! I have three brief announcements to share for next week:
MAP testing will begin the week we get back on 1/5. I will add the schedule for MAP testing below:
Monday: 12:30 Language Arts
Tuesday: 12:30 Math
Wednesday: 8:30 Reading
Friday: 8:30 Science
There will be no spelling test the week we go back. We will resume with spelling on the week of 1/12-1/16.
Looking way ahead, we will be doing another party in a bag on Friday, February 13th to celebrate Valentine's Day. You may also send in cards for the class, but I am asking for cards only please. The party in a bag is in place of any goodie bags, candy, or little toys. The intention behind this is to simplify our class celebration and make it easier on families.
Please let me know if you have any questions! I hope you enjoy this time with your families and have a wonderful rest of your break!
