Procedures are a part of life. These procedures establish our classroom culture so we know how to do things the proper way, and as a result can focus on learning.
1 - Entering the classroom
Enter the class quietly, bring your Chromebook to your assigned seat and sit down. Take care of all phone needs BEFORE the bell rings. You will put your phone in the phone caddy according to your assigned number.
2- Do Nows (Hazlo Ahora)
Do Nows must be completed at the beginning of class and on a Do Now sheet. They will be collected every 2 weeks. They are graded, each is worth 1 point in the Practice category. The teacher will stamp your Do Now if you are completing and that is how you will receive the points for them. If you are tardy, your paper will probably not be stamped and you will miss 1 point. If you are absent, you are still responsible for completing the Do Now. You can see the Do Nows posted on the daily slide deck in Google Classroom (published right after class).
3 - Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones are an integral part of our lives; however, they distract from learning and communicating in a language classroom. Therefore, in order to help you, you will put your phone in the phone caddy during class. You will be assigned a number. We will use only Chromebooks for digital learning. Also, you need to put away earbugs, airpods, etc. unless permission is given to use them.
4 - Bathroom Policy
Use the bathroom before or after class. Do not ask to use the bathroom while the teacher is teaching, we are listening/watching a video or doing partner work. Wait until the class is busy doing independent work. Ask the teacher in Spanish “¿Puedo ir al baño, por favor?” If given permission, sign out on the Bathroom Sign Out sheet, take the bathroom pass and start the timer. When you return, return the pass, stop the timer and write how many minutes you spent outside the classroom.
5 - Put your Name on your work
You must put your name on all your submitted work. If you forget, your work will be in the No Name (Trabajo sin Nombre) folder for you to find and turn back in for late credit. Please check the box before asking me where your missing work is.
6 - End-of-period class dismissal
Class is in session until the bell rings. Do not pack up before the bell or get up and retrieve your phone. The teacher will close class and then call you by table numbers to get your phone. Once you have your phone, sit back down in your seat and remain seated until the bell rings. Please push your chair in when you leave.
7 - When you are absent
Check the slide deck for the day in Google Classroom, review the activities you missed. You are always responsible for obtaining and completing any missing assignments.
8 - Be Respectful and Positive
Show your classmates respect by learning their names quickly and use them to greet each other. Show you are listening to your classmates by turning and facing them. Make eye contact when speaking to each other. Say “por favor” y “gracias” when asking and receiving something. Being polite and respectful helps create a safe, positive community.
DEADLINES: The class aims to strike a balance between offering flexibility and encouraging responsibility, so there are a series of rules regarding the submission of work.
Bonus for presenting on the scheduled day: An important part of project presentations is sharing with the class and giving others the opportunity to learn from them. Therefore, all projects presented for the classmates (in groups or in front of the class) on the scheduled date will receive a 5% bonus on the grade.
Extension for projects: If a student has justified reasons for being unable to complete a project on time, they may request an extension without penalty. This can be done orally or in writing, explaining the reasons for the delay. Depending on the circumstances, a new deadline will be set.
Late projects without justification: A 5% deduction in the grade will be applied for each day late, up to 12 days.
Incomplete classwork: If for some reason you are unable to complete a practice in class, you need to communicate with teacher explaining the reason, otherwise your work will not be accepted. This can be done orally or in writing.
Make-up exams: In the event of an absence on the day of an exam, the student needs to make it up during lunch or advisory. They have 12 days to do so, although they can request an extension if there are justified circumstances.
RETAKING ASSESSMENTS: The option to retake exams will be offered to students who have not demonstrated sufficient learning or who wish to improve their grade. A timeframe will be given for the retake (usually one week).
