ABOUT THE EVENTThe Filipinx Student Wellbeing Conference (FSWC) is a youth-led, mental wellness conference organized by current and former Buong Loob: Filipinx Student Wellness Internship interns. We aim to create courageous learning spaces for Filipina/o/x and Filipina/o/x American identified high schoolers to discuss topics related to Filipinx cultural values, identity, mental health stigma while centering the student experience. This free event is open to students who:
1) Identify as Filipina/o/x or Filipina/o/x American2) Are in 9th/10th/11th/12th grade3) Currently enrolled in San Francisco Unified School District. (Students from neighboring districts/cities will be added to a waitlist.)

Diasporic Intimacies draw inspiration from John L. Silva’s groundbreaking title, A Token of our Friendship, which documents traditional portraits of Filipino men through coded moments of male affection. In recognition of the evolving journey for Queer Pilipinx to create safe and courageous spaces with chosen family that heal familial wounds, this project aims to document the navigation and homing of belonging and safety of Queer Pilipina/o/x within the diaspora.Queer Pilipinx of all ages are invited to have portrait sessions with queer siblings, elders, friends, romantic partners and anyone who has supported their queer journeys with esteemed Bay Area Pilipinx photographers:- Mish Lapitan, San Jose-based portrait photographer

This series is open to PinXys in the SF Bay Area who have a history with or experience with cancer; or those who have been caretakers of cancer survivors. This will be an intimate course & is limited to these particular people.You may take this course together with loved ones as a survivor & caretaker. This is an immense topic & we will focus on holistic care & understanding including practical herbalism, medicine making, herbal diet plans, contraindications & the macro connection of this epidemic. Cost:$30 Medicine Kit Contribution (Class Series is Free) *No one turned away for lack of funds.Application LINK

6th Annual Filipinx Healer Workshop Series 2024
FMHI-SF's Filipinx Healer Workshop Series (FHWS) is an annual event held every October in celebration of Filipinx American History Month (FAHM). Since 2018, we have hosted a diverse range of community centered wellness gatherings led by Filipinx-identified healers & practitioners from across the diaspora. Light food and refreshments will be provided.Workshop Description: We hope to provide a shared space to offer learnings in self defense, self and community preservation through our platform/medium of martial arts/movement practices, with the intention to decolonize, dismantle toxic systems and destigmatize mental health within the art/sport, i.e. engaging in reflection, tapping into somatics, discussion and overall connection to ourselves and each other. The energy to fill the room is always co-conspired, therefore whoever engages with us in this way also contributes to the larger whole and our greater purpose to serve.

Workshop Description: "Pwera Usog" is a blessing and saying in the Philippines to protect babies from unintended "bati" - an energetic transfer that can show up as a disturbance in their bodies This can be intentional or intentional. Through generations, the power of ritual, prayer, and sacred objects has served as a shield against unseen forces. For our session, we will walk together through some cultural practices, such as pausok, anting-anting, pagtatawas, sumbalik, Hilot and more. This is a space to remember, to honor, and to bring these protective traditions into our modern lives. We will do this respectfully and with protection. We will also refrain from doing any particular rituals while in session together.

Workshop Description: This session is for parents, guardians and folx who envision a future raising children. We will explore the ways we reclaim our cultural practices and honor our inner wisdom as we envision our youth as future ancestors. Inherited wisdom can look like preparing atang when having family celebrations or laying of hands on a loved one to relieve them of pain. In this communal space, storytelling and compassionate dialogue will guide us as we strengthen our connection with those who came before, and the generations forward.

We are having a "Potluck." Bring a dish or two good enough for 5-10 people. Kababayan will be providing all the cutlery & water.

This Resource Guide provides links to literature, lessons, content, events, & other resources to celebrate the rich history & contributions that the Filipinx community has made in the United States. The SFUSD Filipinx History Resource Guide was created by a task force representing various members of the SFUSD Community, including Kababayan SFUSD, LEAD, Curriculum & Instruction, & school sites.
