About the Director

Robert Woodcock is originally from Long Island, NY. He began working at Hoover MS in 2013 as band director. After five years, he transitioned to string orchestra.

Mr. Woodcock has music degrees from Queens College and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. In addition, he has a certification on the Fundamentals of Scoring for Film and Visual Media from Pulse College in Dublin, Ireland.

He has studied double bass with New York Philharmonic legend Homer Mensch, in addition to Assistant Principal bassist of the San Francisco Symphony Stephen Tramontozzi, and SF Opera bassist Shinji Eshima.

Early in his career, Mr. Woodcock taught music for the Diocese of Brooklyn and performed around NYC until moving to San Francisco in 2004.

Since 2013, he has been performing as Principal Bassist of the San Francisco Wind Symphony (formerly the SF Wind Ensemble). From 2006 to 2010, he was Principal Bassist of the Silicon Valley Symphony. From 2010-2012, he was Principal Bassist of the San Francisco Civic Symphony, during which time he performed Bottesini's Concerto for Double Bass #2.
