WASH DRAMA at George Washington High School is a training program that is dedicated to creating well-rounded, passionate, and insightful theatre artists, collaborators, & creators.
We prioritize intersectionality and accessibility within our community of theater artists, as well as in all the art we create. We understand that all theater is rooted in empathy for others, and so we as human artists must be rooted in empathy too.
We prioritize fostering a spirit of joy, and believe a play is called a PLAY for a reason - it is supposed to be fun, from inception to final production. Joy, play, and the willingness to always try again are the most important tools in any theater artist's toolbelt!
We prioritize educating our artists on all aspects of theater, not just performance, so that they are equipped to make their own work. We recognize that we cannot wait for others to allow us access to their opportunities. We are empowered when we have the skillsets to create our own opportunities.
Our productions are open to all GWHS students, of all skill levels & with no previous experience needed to join. Auditions are held in the Fall and again in the Spring. Recent productions have included: QUEENS by Kristen Doherty, ATTENTION: IT'S FREE (Student Devised), The Addams Family, To Kill A Mockingbird, Romeo and Juliet, The Laramie Project, Little Shop of Horrors, and more.
In addition to our full length productions, Improv Club, Drama Workshops, and Spring Scene Study are more ways to get involved in Drama at GWHS. We would love to have you join us!
Begin Acting your Freshman Year at GWHS. Don’t wait. If you are involved in Drama all four years you are eligible for DIRECTING OPPORTUNITIES during your Senior Year. Any Drama students who join Drama in their sophomore, junior, or senior year ALL WISH THEY HAD BEGUN SOONER!
