Guinea Pig Socializer

This is definitely a specialized Volunteer role because Guinea Pigs tend to be some our our Shelter's most undersocialized pets. GP Socializers help these cute, little critters get used to human touch and to being held.

Rabbit Socializer

Rabbit adoption Volunteers are an important liaison between the animals and the public. Volunteers provide rabbits’ socialization and exercise time outside of kennels, and maintenance of the rabbit room to allow for a visually agreeable space where the public can interact with the animals.

Smitten Kitten Socializer

The Smitten Kitten Project involves consistent socialization efforts for a population of young cats who are extremely fearful and somewhat reactive to humans and their environment. These kittens are in the stage where it is crucial to begin the human bonding experience, helping the kittens learn trust.

Feline Socializer

Feline Socializers help our Shelter cats deal with the stress of living in a cage. Individual attention is so important to give them the chance to be pet, groomed, cuddled and given play time. A cat that is more relaxed and has learned to trust many types of people has a much better chance of being adopted!

Puppy Socializer - Temporarily Suspended

Touching, cuddling and speaking to Shelter puppies gives them a much better chance at becoming a well socialized dog. Early socialization teaches them that human touch, especially in sensitive areas, can be trusted and enjoyed.

Canine Socializer

Dog socializers help our adoptable dogs deal with the stress of living in a shelter environment. Studies have shown that 15 minutes, even with a stranger, lessens a dog's stress level. These dogs are very grateful to have individual attention and for those shy ones, it's a great way to get them used to different types of people, giving them a much better chance of being adopted.

Mobile Adoptions

Mobile (off-site) adoptions is a successful program for SFAS. You can join this wonderful team of Volunteers who visit off-site locations and special events hosted by organizations and businesses in the community. You'll work to promote the adoption of our pets!

Hounds Around Town

Experienced canine walkers take an approved dog out for one-on-one time. A ride in the car, a hike on local trails or out for time at dog-friendly businesses or the plaza. This experience lets us understand the dog outside a shelter setting while promoting them for adoption. You must be pre-approved for the program. Approval requires a meeting with the chosen canine and the Director of Adoptions (or Team Lead) prior to taking the canine off-site.

Canine Nose Work

Canines love to work for their treats. This program offers lucky shelter dogs a chance to use their nose for enrichment and reward.

Adoption Desk Aide

Join the ever popular adoption team in finding great homes for our shelter pets. Tasks vary by the day, but there is always something to do!

Photographer

Photographers work to capture just the right shot, making an adoptable shelter pet even more adoptable. A great picture on an adoption page can go a long way for creating more interest in a homeless pet.

Photography Assistant

Photo assistants work to help the photographer make the perfect shot by brining transporting animals to the set, positioning them and helping them relax in front of the camera. Photography teams create a better image of shelter pets, making them more adoptable from the viewer's perspective.

Beach Recovery Volunteer: Satellite Clinic

Helping surgery animals to recover from anesthesia after their spay/neuter surgery. This is a position that does require an attention to detail, standing and kneeling during your shift.

Surgery Pack Volunteer: Satellite Clinic

Surgery packing and sterilization is crucial for ensuring surgery animals are exposed to nothing but the most sanitary conditions. This is a position that does require an attention to detail and standing during your shift.

Volunteer Mentor

Being a Volunteer Mentor allows you the chance to develop meaningful relationships with other people as you help them on their volunteer path.

New Hope Volunteer Mentor

Be a volunteer that helps other Volunteers be successful in the New Hope foster program. You will assist the Volunteer Coordinator maintain records, ensure hours are being logged and be a liaison between Volunteers and Staff.
