A Week of Sporting Excellence and School Spirit
What an incredible week of action we’ve just had!
On Wednesday, we held our Annual School Athletics. Our middle and senior students showcased their talents across various disciplines, vying for a spot at the Eastern Zone Athletics meet. Meanwhile, our juniors had a blast with modified running, jumping, and throwing events. It was wonderful to see such high levels of participation and grit—congratulations to all our regional qualifiers!
The energy continued into Friday for our House Sports Day. The day kicked off with a spirited house chant competition before we headed down to Shorland Park for a day of fun. Our House Leaders did an exceptional job keeping spirits high and leading by example.
A massive thank you to everyone who made these events possible: our dedicated staff (with a special shout-out to Sarah and Anita for their tireless behind-the-scenes work), our supportive parents, and—most importantly—our students. You represented yourselves and our school with pride!
Ngā mihi nui,
Nikolai Solia
Principal
. . . to the following students who have started school in the last few weeks.
Aron, Adam, Norah, Samuela and Quinton
We hope that you have a successful and happy time at St Francis de Sales.
Join Us for Our Easter Liturgy!
Easter is a time of hope, renewal, and new beginnings. It’s the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection and the promise of new life for all. This season reminds us of the power of love, faith, and community.
We warmly invite all students, families, and friends to join us for our Easter Liturgy at 11:45 AM at SFDS Church. Let’s come together to reflect, rejoice, and share in the joy of this special time.
We can’t wait to celebrate with you!
Sacrament of Reconciliation – This Saturday
This Saturday, some of our children will be completing their Reconciliation at St Anne’s Church. We warmly welcome anyone from our community who would like to participate in Confession to come along and join us.
It’s a wonderful opportunity to reflect, seek forgiveness, and experience the grace of this special sacrament and to show your support to the children who are taking their first steps into the sacraments.
Our students recently enjoyed a wonderful hands-on experience, making their very own pasta sauce using fresh Capri tomatoes! They served it with spaghetti and cheese—and it was a huge hit. Many students even went back for seconds and are excited to recreate the recipe at home with their families.
We’ve included the recipe below for anyone who would like to give it a try!
A very special thank you to our amazing volunteers, Annette and Ruth-Anya. Your time and support made this such a memorable and meaningful experience for our children.
Mnqobi, Aron and Benny giving their seal of approval!
All things great and small... including carrots!
Just like Nonna used to make!
Don't let this get out!!!!
Creativity is always wonderful to see around our school!
Rose showed fantastic imagination and creativity by creating an amazing wee wooden tent using the wooden panels from Learning Through Play. It was great to see her problem-solving, designing, and bringing her idea to life.
Moments like these highlight the value of play-based learning, where children explore, create, and develop their confidence in a fun and meaningful way. Well done, Rose — what an awesome creation!
Miniball/Basketball (Year 3 - 8)
A reminder the registrations are open on Kindo for Term 2.
Athletics Day
A huge thank you to our amazing helpers who helped last Wednesday at Athletics Day. It was a fabulous day and it was wonderful seeing everyone trying their best and encouraging each other. The results from the year 4 - 8 events will be published at a later date.
Fun Sport Morning
We had a great time at Shorland Park on Friday celebrating house spirit and school values. Our year 7/8 leaders did an impressive job of leading their house groups and supporting our younger students, we were very proud of them. Thank you to those whānau who joined us at the park, it was lovely to see you.

Movin’ March Wrap-Up – Lunchtime Fun!
To wrap up Movin’ March and help us get a few more ticks on our class charts, we’ll be holding some fun lunchtime activities to keep our tamariki moving! What’s happening:
Tuesday 31st March – Dance Party
Join us in the hall at lunchtime for a fun dance session!
It was great to see so many tamariki getting involved in our Wheels Day on Tuesday! It was fantastic to watch the children come along with their bikes and scooters, and enjoy being active together. The energy and enthusiasm throughout lunchtime made it a really fun event, and it was awesome to see everyone getting moving and supporting one another.
These activities are all about celebrating active movement and finishing Movin’ March on a high. Thanks for your support!

There is just one week left before our raffle closes! If you still have any unsold tickets, please return them to the school office as soon as possible. We have other families keen to sell more, so getting those tickets back in promptly would be greatly appreciated.
