Gratitude
There is so much to be grateful for; having a loving family; living in a safe environment; having friends to lean on.
Today I dedicate this post to our staff here at St Francis de Sales school. They have been absolutely amazing! They have welcomed me with open arms and ensured that they give me the time and space to find my place here at this Kura. Thank you for your kindness.
I have had the privilege of visiting some of the classes and I was in awe, not just how they deliver the curriculum but how the students are settled and are ready for learning. There was a warm feeling in all the classrooms, and I leave feeling confident that the students are in good hands.
The support staff have also been amazing, going above and beyond to care for students who need it most. The office staff have a strong understanding of the school and ensure that they keep me informed with business matters.
So here's to you, the staff of St Francis de Sales School- Thank you so much for your tireless dedication and passion. You turn this simple building into a vibrant community where our Tamariki truly belong.
Ngā mihi nui,
Nikolai Solia
Principal
Sacrament of Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a special time in the Catholic Church where we say sorry to God for the wrong choices we have made and receive his love and forgiveness. It is a chance to have a fresh start and try again with a clean heart.
We are excited that some of our children are beginning this special journey on Sunday. Please keep them in your prayers as they take this important step in their faith. If you would like to support these families please come along to 10.30am Mass on Sunday at St Francis de Sales Church.
PSL AGM
Our PSL AGM is coming up on Thursday 12 March at 7:00pm in the SFdS Staffroom.
We’d love to see as many families there as possible! Whether you’re new to SFdS or have been part of the school community for years, come along to find out what the PSL is all about and how you can get involved.
The AGM is a great opportunity to join our amazing committee. Even if you’re not looking to take on a formal role, being part of the support team is a fantastic way to help out and stay connected.
If there’s anything you’d like added to the AGM agenda, please let us know as soon as possible. The AGM will be followed straight away by our March PSL meeting, where we’ll be planning events for the rest of the year!
For more information or any questions, please email us at psl.sfds@gmail.com
What is the PSL?
The SFdS Parent School Link (PSL) is a group of parents and caregivers who support our school and families through fundraising, social events, and community care.
We organise the much-loved school discos, Easter fundraisers, quiz nights, sausage sizzles, and fun family fish ’n’ chip nights. We’re also there to lend a hand to families doing it tough.
Getting involved with the PSL is a great way to meet other parents, make connections, and be part of a supportive and welcoming school community.
Mufti -Non Uniform Day Friday 13 March!
Next Friday 13 March, the PSL will be holding a Non-Uniform (Mufti) day! On this day, your child does not need to wear their uniform.
Normally, we would raise money this way, but instead of money, please send in an item that we can raffle off as part of our upcoming Easter raffle!
Message from Ezlunch
We have been advised by Vietnameezy that their lunch service will be closed from Tuesday 31 March to Thursday 2 April.
Ezlunch have cancelled all pre-orders and notified the affected parents and caregivers.
Signing out
If your child is leaving school during school hours please ensure they sign out and back in on the Vistab tablet in the foyer.
Mitey
We have started our learning with the Mitey Programme.
Mitey targets NZ children from Years 1-8 to help them build the necessary and age appropriate skills, knowledge and understanding they need to nurture their own emotional wellbeing and those of others.
Today, we had our school facilitator, Keiko Kubota, in school modelling lessons for our teachers. Students will continue to have Mitey lessons in class with their teacher. Have a look at the website if you would like to read more about it: https://www.mitey.org.nz/
Movin’March is here!
We’re proud to be a Movin’March school and this month we’re looking forward to seeing whānau and students walking or wheeling to or from school.
Walking, biking, and scooting is a great way to improve well-being – and it’s also great for the planet!
For those who live too far away to walk or wheel, you can try out Park and Stride – park a block away and walk from there. And buses count too!
Remember to work towards your WoW Class Challenge goal and keep an eye out for the spot prizes!
Parent Help Needed – Road Patrol Volunteers
Thanks to those who have already volunteered! We are still looking for a few more parent helpers to support our Road Patrol team. Morning and afternoon shifts are available, and even helping one day a week makes a big difference!
Times:
8.30–8.50am
2.50–3.10pm
Full training will be provided, and on those chilly mornings we’ll even have a hot chocolate waiting for you!
If you’re able to help keep our students safe before and after school, please contact Miss Fountain (Dept Principal) on sarah.fountain@sfds.school.nz. We’d love to have you on board.
Fun Sports Morning
On Friday 20 March, our whole school is heading to Shorland Park for a morning of fun and friendly competition! We will be walking from school at 9.20am and will be back at school around 12.30pm.
Students will take part in a range of activities in their house groups, so please support them to come dressed proudly in their house colours to show their team spirit! A reminder of the house colours: Avila - red, Barbier - blue, Siena - yellow, Aubert - green. Please also refer to the link that has more information about our House groups.
This event is also a fantastic opportunity for our senior students to step up as leaders and to show manaakitanga as they encourage and support our younger students throughout the morning.
You are welcome to join us at the park, we would love to see you.
Athletics day
This year our whole school Athletics day is for all students in Year 1 - 8. It will be held in Term 1 on Wednesday 18 March at Newtown Park. For PE lessons this term, classes will be learning athletics skills and training for the events.
Athletics day heavily relies on extra adult helpers. If you are able to help for all or part of the day, please fill in this google form ASAP.
Form: https://forms.gle/FQmcNirtMoDyfDK36 Thanks to those parents that have already signed up to help! If you have already emailed the office we have your name down and will be in touch shortly.
The bus will be leaving school at 9.10am and our juniors will return to school by 1pm and our seniors by 3pm. All students will need to wear their school PE gear and bring a packed morning tea, lunch and water bottle (no lunch orders please as these won’t be delivered to the park).
If you have any questions or queries please email Anita at: anita.patel@sfds.school.nz
The outline of the day will look like this:

Adult Sizes (S, M, L, XL): $65 each

If you already own a hoodie, you may be able to gauge the next size needed and place your order directly on Kindo.
