Kia ora e te whānau
This week we farewell the Wheke R7 teacher, Jo Roberts. Jo is moving to the Wairarapa! Jo has been a great teacher who has brought great skills in her teaching over the past year and a half. Jo's class will miss her, as will the staff - and we wish her all the very best for her next venture!
Colm Houlihan, a teacher who is in Wellington from Ireland for a few more months, will teach Jo's class for the remainder of this year - from next Monday.
Things are also coming together in our staff plan for 2026. We have some exciting staff updates to share with you. We will give you the full list of teachers and classes in the next few weeks, once class lists have been finalised.
Brydie Silveira - We have appointed Brydie to a full time teaching position with us from the beginning of 2026. Our senior students are familiar with Brydie, as she has recently been working in our school as a trainee teacher, and we have been very impressed with her skills, and caring nature. Brydie is soon to graduate as a teacher, and it is wonderful to be able to support her at the beginning of her career.
Anita Patel - Anita will join us again in a part time (3 days) capacity, as a release teacher. Anita will continue to develop our PE programme, teaching PE each week to all of the students. We have loved having Anita join our team in 2025, and wonderful to know that she can continue.
Amie Roberts - It is exciting to let you know that we have appointed Amie to a part-time (4 days) position next year. Amie will be our Learning Support Coordinator. This role is new to our school, and we were able to to appoint to the position because the role will be fully funded by the Ministry of Education. Amie will work with our Inclusion Lead - Sarah Fountain to determine how her time and skills will be used in this role. Amie will also be teaching Literacy and Numeracy to small groups of specific learners whom we identify as needing support. Amie brings a huge wealth of experience and skill to this role and we have worked closely with her for a number of years. Amie has also previously offered parent information sessions at our school, as well as providing professional learning for teachers at our school and across other schools in Wellington.
We still have some finalising of teacher appointments to do, and we have also advertised for one more teacher to join our team in 2026, due to the number of new enrolments we have recently received. The Office Manager position closes soon too, so we will be able to wrap this up before the end of year.
Newly appointed 'Learning Support Coordinator', Amie Roberts
"Kia ora everyone! My name is Amie Roberts, and I’m excited to be joining the SFDS community! I love helping kids feel confident and excited about their learning. For the past few years, I’ve worked as a Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour, with a big passion for literacy, neurodiversity, and inclusive classrooms. I’m all about working together with whānau to help our tamariki shine. When I’m not at school, you’ll find me in the garden, running around on the netball court, or playing board games with my 3 children. I’m really looking forward to spending more time at SFDS and getting to know everyone and being part of the amazing mahi happening here."
Mission fair 2025!
Our wonderful rangatahi, young people, in the senior school organised and ran a wonderful mission fair on Friday. A fair arranged by the students - for the students. Everyone had so much fun on the day - and the students raised a whopping $2587!! We are all very proud of them. Thank you to the staff involved for their support, and for all of the families who donated items for the event.
The amount raised will be donated to Caritas and Parihaka. If you would like to learn more about Caritas and the work they do, visit their website here: https://www.caritas.org.nz/
Congratulations for our latest recipients of the values certificates: Jaxon, Tabitha, Basil, Tina, Miriam, Frank, Mimi, Catherine, Darragh, Maddox
Well done to the four children whose names were drawn in the house spinner! Zeb, Mary, Nathania, and Thomas
Huge congratualtions to Elijah for winning the Principal's Cup! Elijah earned the most house points from the whole school since the last assembly. This is a well-earned award for Elijah for working so hard.

Responsibilities include co-constructing a budget for decorations and table settings (The Pines will already have Christmas decorations in place), optionally creating a photo wall, and liaising with kaiako about event timings and the evening’s schedule.
Please reach out if you can assist, as this is always such a memorable event for our Year 8s.
