Reminder: Paid Union Meeting Tuesday 19 August
As per our community posts on Hero, 16 of our staff will excercise their right to attend an NZEI Union meeting offsite on Tuesday afternoon next week, 19th August. This will leave approximately 8 staff onsite with the children at school that afternoon.
Please let us know if you (or a nominated adult) will collect your child early at 12.30pm that afternoon. We will only release children whose parents have give us written permission. You can do this by:
Completing the form on the Hero community notice (7th August)
Emailing office@sfds.school.nz
If we do not hear from you, we will presume your child with be at school for the afternoon.
Board Elections
Thank you to all of those who nominated someone to stand in the upcoming Board elections. We received 6 nominations, and you will be contacted about how you can vote for the people you want to see on the Board.
Don't Miss the Quiz Night Friday 12 September
Most things we do are directly for and with the children. We are really looking forward to a great night for the grown-ups in our community being arranged by PSL for the evening of Friday 12th September. This annual event is such a lot of fun, so get your team together and be ready to beat the clock and other teams while you also raise much needed funds for our playground refresh - which, of course, is for the children!
Mass for the Feast of The Assumption
On Friday this week, we celebrate the feast of the Assumption of Mary into Heaven. It would be wonderful to have some of our families at the Mass with us, and you would be very welcome. Mass starts at 10am.
Positive Behaviour For Learning - School Wide (PB4L - SW)
For the past two years we have been taking part in the PB4L programme. PB4L School-Wide looks at behaviour and learning from a whole-of-school as well as an individual child perspective. PB4L School-Wide takes schools through a tiered process.
Tier 1 is the foundation on which the other two tiers are built. It looks at the support systems and processes across the whole school – things that impact on all students and adults. This is where we were at last year, when we reviewed all of our behaviour systems - identifying how we could improve, and learned about different behaviour theories.
Tier 2 looks at interventions for students who require additional behaviour and learning support. This is the tier we are working at as a school. We have implemented many interventions, including new school 'rules' based on wellbeing, new incentives for positive behaviour, a new timetable.
Tier 3 looks at more individualised and intensive support for students who experience chronic, severe, and challenging behaviour. This will be a future steps for us.
Please visit the following You Tube link to hear more about PB4L and how it has impacted us at St Francis de Sales. We have been on a journey of change, and we are starting to see some really significant benefits from our initiatives. We'd love you to learn more about our journey through the link following.
Handball
Our students recently had the chance to try a brand-new sport at the Handball Tournament on 30th July. For many, it was their first time playing, and they gave it their all, showing great teamwork and enthusiasm. It was a fantastic day out filled with learning, fun, and plenty of action. A big thank you to July and Leevan for coming along to support the teams.
School Lunch Orders
We offer three lunch options each week that can be ordered online. Place your orders via the Kindo shop by 9am on the day*. Named orders will be dropped off by 12.30pm on the day and can be collected from the school office. Please ensure you receive a confirmation of your order – it can be quite upsetting if a child thinks they are getting a lunch and it doesn’t arrive.
