Kia ora e te Whānau - warm greetings to all of our families.
A number of our new families have moved to New Zealand for their work, and we are very grateful that they have chosen our Catholic Community for their child's education. This enriches the learning experience for other children who are exposed to news ways of interacting and playing, and learn to demonstrated 'manaakitanga' - ensuring their needs are met and fostering a warm and inclusive environment.
School Hours
St Francis de Sales School is open between 8.30am and 3.15pm. These are the times that your child can be at school. Outside of these hours, teachers need time to meet other staff, prepare their lessons and resources, mark work, evaluate assessments, and meet with external support services. Please respect this by doing the following:
make sure your child arrives at school between 8.30am and 8.55am
Remain out of the classroom before 8.30am
collect your child from school by 3.15pm
arrange for before and after school care outside of these times
email your child's teacher if you would like to meet with them
Sacrament of Confirmation
Fiffteen of our SFDS students celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation at At St Francis de Sales Church on Saturday evening. We continue to pray for these children as they journey through the Sacramental programme within our parish.
Loving God,
Thank You for being with our tamariki as they learn more about You.
Please bless all the children journeying through the first sacraments.
Help them to listen, learn, and grow in their faith.
Bless their families, their teachers, and their friends
who help them on this journey.
Thank You for loving us always.
We pray in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
Garden to Table
This week, our Garden to Table group brought fresh flavours and green goodness to the kitchen by whipping up Herby Cheese Puffs with Spinach — using ingredients they harvested themselves from our very own school garden!
With spinach and parsley picked fresh from our garden beds, the students got busy washing, chopping, mixing and baking a batch of delicious cheese puffs. Following a simple but tasty recipe from the Garden to Table programme, the students learned valuable kitchen skills such as using a grater safely, measuring ingredients, and mixing batter without overworking it.
Keen to try these puffs at home? See the recipe below.
Ka pai to all our young chefs — your green thumbs and growing cooking skills are truly something to celebrate!
Curriculum Guides for Parents
The Ministry of Education recently updated their parent information in line with updates to the NZ curriculum. Our teachers have been learning about these updates, we have been updating our systems, and we are beginning to implement the refreshed curriculum content.
Here is some information for you to explore:
As the site is developed by the Ministry of Education, the bank of useful resources for families is growing and becoming more and more useful. See below for examples.
Jumping June
We are excited to announce that St Francis de Sales School will be participating in Jumping June to help raise money for the Heart Foundation.
During our PE lessons in Week 9, from Wednesday 25 June to Friday 27 June, students will be skipping to support this wonderful cause. This is a fantastic way for our students to stay active while contributing to heart health awareness and research.
We encourage families to support the students in raising funds for the Heart Foundation. Donations can be made by using the QR code below or by visiting the following link:
Any contributions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your ongoing support!
Inter Zone Cross Country
Congratulations to our 15 runners who ran in this event yesterday. Our runners all did very well running on the muddy, wet track and should be very proud of themselves.
