Kia ora e te Whānau
Wow - a really wet day, following two very windy days! This sort of weather does play havoc on the normally calm environment of school. Children with sensory processing challenges may be more sensitive to environmental stimuli, including weather-related factors such as noise from wind or discomfort from wet conditions. Having a grate big puddle to splash in is great fun too!
Timetable Review
As we move close to the end of our first term of our timetable trial this year, the staff is now reviewing how this is going for everyone. If you have any insights you would like to share, feel free to email these to principal@sfds.school.nz.
This lenten season it would be wonderful to bear witness to our practices as a Catholic School. We are encouraged to increase prayer, seeking God’s guidance and strength. Fast or abstain from certain foods or activities, this is a way to discipline the body and focus on spiritual matters and finally almsgiving; giving to those in need is a way to show compassion and care for others, reflecting God’s love.
As a school we are participating in a Lenten Prayer Tree display which will be in our foyer. If you notice template leaves going home or children talking about this during the week. Please note that it is a visual and interactive way to incorporate Lenten practices into the Lenten Season, it symbolizes the growth of faith and power of prayer. On these leaves tamariki are encouraged to write prayer intentions or what they have given up or even what they are doing in terms of almsgiving on the leaves.
Garden to table - Our young chefs took a farm-to-fork journey, growing and harvesting their own potatoes and tomatoes before turning them into crispy homemade chips and rich, flavorful tomato sauce. Through this hands-on experience, they not only learned the joys of gardening but also discovered the magic of cooking with fresh, homegrown ingredients!
This is simply wearing your craziest, unmatching, most likely to stand out SOCKS! All day!
Why? We have celebrated Rock Your Socks for World Down Syndrome Day for many years. Some countries call it Odd Socks Day, or Lots of Socks Day. It started because socks look a bit like chromosomes – people with Down Syndrome have an odd number of these.
When: Friday the 21st of March
Where: Saint Francis de Sales School
Come along and wear your funkiest, most colourful socks all day! Donations are available via Kindo!!
Easter Raffle
Last week, your child brought home an envelope with a raffle book! Please remember to return all sold and unsold raffle tickets to the school office. If you need extra books, they are available at the office as well.
A big thank you to everyone who has already returned their tickets—we appreciate your support!
Sausage Sizzle Thank you!
A huge thank you to everyone who supported our sausage sizzle last week—we raised an amazing $328!
A special shout-out to Richard from Island Bay New World for generously donating the bread and sauce, and to our wonderful parent volunteers: Carola L., Sophie T., Candice R., Courtney P., and Anita W. for cooking and delivering sausages. We truly appreciate your time and effort!
Your support makes a big difference—thank you!
AGM and Meeting Reminder
Don't forget! Our AGM and PSL meeting will be held next Tuesday, 25 March, at 7 PM in the school staff room.
If you're curious about what we do or would like to get involved, we’d love to see you there! Come along and be part of the conversation.
Sports Hoodies Fitting
The uniform shop is open Friday mornings- if your child requires a fitting for the hoodie please make sure they pop in, Fran will email you the size to order once done. Please Note: Sizing is unique, so if you're uncertain, we highly recommend a fitting. Once ordered, refunds will not be available. If you already own a hoodie, you may be able to gauge the next size needed and place your order directly on Kindo. Hoodies will be ready for collection in Term 2. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at the office.
