After a weekend celebrating Te Tiriti o Waitangi we've all been fully engaged in learning this week as we complete our first full week of school. The new maths programme is in full-swing, and Art and PE lessons started - along with Kapaha for our Year 4-8 ākonga.
During the weekend's Island Bay Festival, our school flag flew proudly on 'Madison' for the blessing of the boats in Island bay on Sunday - thank you to Candice and family for making this happen! It looks like our tamariki had a fabulous time. Thank you to Fr Doug for your blessing.
Religious Education
As the new year begins and the tamariki have settled well into their new classes. We as teachers enjoyed getting to know our students better. Our Religious Education lessons focus on developing a sense of belonging. To build our sense of belonging to a Church community, I would like to invite our families to Mass at St Francis de Sales on Friday (led by our tamariki) at 9.15am, Saturday Vigil Mass with the wider community at 6pm or Sunday mass at 10.30am.
Jubilee Year
2025 is a very special year for the Catholic Church as it is a Jubilee year. The Theme of the Jubilee is: Pilgrims of Hope. What this means for us is to foster a greater sense of global sisterhood and brotherhood, solidarity with the poor and caring for the environment. This week we focused on the World Day of Prayer for the Sick (11 Feb) and encouraged our tamariki to pray for others or those they knew who were ill. On a happier note, as Valentine’s Day fast approaches, I wish you all a memorable day spent with loved ones, may your homes be filled with love and happiness.
2025 Sacramental programme
We are now accepting enrolments for 2025. This programme is available to all children who have been baptised into the Catholic faith and reached Year 4 or above in the primary school system. Enrollment forms are available on the Church website wellingtonsouthcatholic.org/
World Day of Prayer for the Sick
This week we have been praying for people we know who are sick. Many of us have people in our whānau or friends in our community who are currently suffering from serious and long-term illnesses. The power of prayer helps those who are suffering, as well as giving strength to those who support them.

Athletics Day
This year our athletics day for year 4 - 8 students will be held in term 1 on Friday 28 March at Newtown Park. This allows us to focus on teaching athletics skills during term 1 while the weather is more settled and then give the students an opportunity to put their skills into practice at athletics day later in the term. This event relies on extra adult helpers. If you are able to help for all or part of the day, please email Fran on francesca.peters@sfds.school.nz Thanks to those parents that have already signed up to help!
Term 1 Sports
All registrations have been made. If you have signed your child/ren up for any sport, please keep an eye on your emails for more information coming including the draw.
