HOW TO DO SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

  • Read the opening prayer of the day’s Mass

  • Mass readings for the day

  • Allow time for meditation on the readings

  • Intercessions and petitions (what you offer your own spiritual sacrifice for)

  • Take time to make simple acts of faith, hope and love: it can be as simple as saying, 'Lord, I believe You, I adore You, and I love You.

  • Our Father...

  • In a moment of silence ask the Lord to come into your heart more profoundly, to receive the effects of the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

Sample: “My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen”

  • Concluding prayer.

Sample: "May the Lord + bless us, protect us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life. Amen."
