Death counts in US cities hit hardest by the crisis are far higher than their normal levels. According to The NY Times, NYC's death count is 325% of its usual for this period, amounting to almost an additional 13,000 deaths, and New Jersey's death count is 172% of the usual, which totals over 5,000 more deaths.
