Strategic Goals

We will research, design, and support the implementation of programs that develop physical, mental, social, and emotional health in a secure and nurturing environment that develops the grit and resilience of our students.

Specific Result #1 Develop and expand on the systematic practices for mental health and behavioral support.

*Staff read Grit by Angela Duckworth and explored concepts during PLC Meetings

* Dr. Winkler, an associate of Dr. Duckworth's, presented to our staff regarding developing grit in students.

* Select staff were trained to provide a Hope Squad at the High School, a suicide prevention program.

*LMHP hired 2 days a week to serve the students and staff in each school

*QPR training for staff and students

Specific Result #2 Develop and implement plans to increase resiliency and grit in students through the lens of growth mindset and problem-solving.

• A Screening tool was implemented in the 2021-22 school year to identify students who may need additional support with mental health.

• Staff development was offered in the area of trauma-informed instruction, teacher self-care, QPR

• School psychologist was trained in Cognitive Behavior Therapy to support students working with our LMHP.

• Definitions of Resiliency, grit and growth mindset were created during a staff development committee meeting and shared with teachers as we looked at the All Learning is Social and Emotional Book.

Specific Result #3 Expand opportunities for student and staff wellness to prepare each stakeholder for emotional, physical, mental, and academic success.

• Planned time for physical movement has been added to the school day to increase student engagement, focus, and behaviors throughout the day

  • During Tweet Time, students will have time for physical movement

  • During morning announcements, students have “Morning Movements”

• Second Steps Program K-4

  • Second Steps is a program that focuses on Social -Emotional Learning, Bullying Prevention, and Child Protection to help create a safe learning environment.

We will develop plans and partnerships that cultivate positive character, citizenship, and leadership for all students in a culture where all stakeholders feel valued, known and safe.

Specific Result #1 Develop and implement policies and action plans effectively promoting communication between students, school personnel, families, and the community.

• The SES website was updated to include more information about each grade level so students and parents can look into each class.

• The team had each grade level created a “What to expect in ____ grade,” for upcoming students to look at.

• SeeSaw is used Pre-4th grade to communicate and share information about student achievement.

• Research was done to look at middle school web pages and the SMS Page on the school website was updated. This includes the following:

  1. Principal’s page

  2. Grade Level Team Pages

  3. Activities Page (added pictures and scores)

  4. Daily announcements are posted on the web page

  5. SMS home page scrolling pictures are updated

• A new multimedia class was created to share information about SHS and activities going on at SHS.

Specific Result #2 Employ best practices that connect resources to build a fully engaged staff, community, and student body.

• SES has implemented a family hot dog/ice cream picnic for families.

• “Inside view of Education” has been implemented over the years.

• Safe 2 Help NE- anonymous reporting system implemented in all buildings.

• An Emergency Operations Plan has been developed outlining our safety procedures at levels.

• Table Top safety activities are completed with administrators as well as annually with the safety team.

• Walk throughs with area police departments have been completed with areas of need identified.

We will extend our implementation of consistent district-wide processes for instructional decisions.

*Mandatory staff development was added to the Vector Solutions Program.

Specific Result #4 Provide STEM opportunities, along with quality ongoing training to provide rich experiences for students in the areas of science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

Provided STEAM activities through the science curriculum adoption process.

• Robotics was added to the curriculum in the 22-23 school year.

• Project Lead the Way courses were investigated, however not selected to be implemented in SPS.

• As part of the CTE curriculum review, a number of career clusters were added to the current list. Several new courses were also identified and created.

Specific Result #5 We will provide opportunities for our students, through strategic partnerships, to develop college and career readiness.

*SPS worked with the SCCDP to offer internships for our students.

*Career videos were created by SCCDP for distribution to classrooms.
