What academic services are offered by the Math Center?

The Math Center offers

• individual and small group tutoring by appointments scheduled through Penji (see below),

  • Math, Accounting, Finance, Economics, General Chemistry, Physics,  Statistics, Computer Science, and other quantitative coursework 

• drop-in tutoring sessions (no appointment required),

• review sessions for select courses

• weekly study groups for select courses

• independent or peer study space

• whiteboard tables

• workspace for faculty office hours

• welcoming, interactive, judgment-free community

How do I navigate the Penji Platform? 

How do I access Penji?

• Penji is available through your web browser at web.penjiapp.com or as a mobile app (iOS and Android).  Scan QR codes above for the mobile app.

• Complete the sign-in flow. You will select “Get Started” to begin.  See instructions here for accompanying photos for how to use Penji or read below. 

How do I schedule a tutor appointment?

1. Select LEARN on the left side menu.  (Be sure you are in the Math Center community.  If not, select this community.)

2. Select Schedule a Tutoring Appointment. You will be prompted to continue with the appointment flow.  Appointments times are added often, so check regularly for new options.

   1. 1. Select your course, day, and time.

      2. Select your tutor.

      3. Select your location (Zoom or in-person.) All formats may not be available.

      4. Create an “agenda”.  Let your tutor know what you want to discuss.

      5. Confirm. Your appointment will appear in your Penji Activity feed. You will also get an email confirmation. Zoom links, if applicable, will be included in the confirmation. 

      6. See cancelation policy below if you need to reschedule or cancel.

How do I view the drop-in/walk-in schedule?

From the LEARN screen, select VIEW DROP-IN TUTORING.  You will be prompted to select your course. Check back often since new times may be added.  Cancellations will also appear in Penji.  Drop-in times do NOT require an appointment.  Walk in at your convenience during the drop-in window.

How do I join a review session, study group or other events? 

Events will be added to the Penji platform throughout the semester.  You can select “Join our Math Center review..” Click join an event. You will receive an email confirmation and the event will appear in your Penji activity feed. 

What do I do if I do not see my course or program listed?

You will see a button with the text "Let your center know." We will receive a message and work with you to identify campus resources that may be able to assist you.

What is the tutor appointment cancellation policy?

To cancel an appointment, students must log in to Penji and click on the appointment from the dashboard.  Click on the “three dots” and choose “cancel.”

Any student that does not attend or cancels within 2 hours of a scheduled appointment will be considered a “no-show." Once a student accumulates 3 “no-shows,” the student will no longer be able to schedule appointments.  Students will still be permitted to attend drop-in sessions and review sessions.
