Check the home page for the deadline and theme.
We accept poetry, short fiction, flash fiction, creative nonfiction, and graphic novels, as well as 2D and 3D art, photography, or graphic design.
NO identification of any form should appear on your entry.
The staff judges anonymously, so please refrain from including your name on submissions.
Submissions must be previously unpublished. This includes Internet publications such as Facebook or personal websites and blogs.
Please send multiple submissions as separate entries.
All submissions should be sent to: eyecontact@setonhill.edu
You may submit no more than 3 poems, limited to two pages per poem.
Repeat the title in the upper right corner of the second page.
Please send the file as a .rft, .doc, or .docx attachment.
Be aware that magazine pages are 5.5” wide and 8” tall, with 0.5” margins.
Font may change between issues, but text size is approx. 10pt.
The editing team does their best to stay faithful to the original format of the poem, however, if a line in your poem is near or above 60 characters (including spaces), we cannot guarantee that it will be preserved as a single line when in the magazine.
To reduce the risk of the editing team having to re-format your line with additional returns at their discretion, ensure that no continuous line in your poem has a length above 60 characters. This is by no means a requirement, but in the act of leaving long lines in your poem, you express your understanding that they may be reformatted prior to publication.
You may submit 2 stories, limited to a maximum of 1500 words per piece.
(Please note that pieces under 1000 words have a better chance of publication.)
Submissions must be typed and double-spaced.
Have the title in the upper right corner of each page with page numbers.
Please send the file as a .rft, .doc, or .docx attachment.
You may submit up to 4 pieces of art (2D and 3D art, photography, or graphic design).
All images MUST be at least 300 dpi or they will not be accepted.
Submitted pieces must be scanned or properly photographed.
Please send it as a .tiff, .jpeg, .png, or .pdf attachment.
Please include the medium of the piece in the email submission.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Images should be at least 300 dpi. While still considered, low quality images are much less likely to be accepted.
If you are photographing a physical art piece for submission, please ensure that the submission photo is high-quality.
Some things to check before submitting your photo:
Image is appropriately scaled and at least 300 dpi.
Lighting is even and there is no glare or shadows.
All sections of the work are in focus.
The image is straight-on, and there is no warping.
The photo is correctly cropped to the edges of the work.
Additionally, if the work is 3D:
The background is not busy or distracting.
The image does not contain anyone else’s art.
It is recommended that you stage your piece against a blank, solid color wall.
If you submit an image of dissatisfactory quality, the editing team may reach out with a request for a higher-quality image of the piece so that it may be judged fairly. Due to varying submission load, however, this communication cannot be guaranteed; you should ensure that you are submitting the highest-quality image possible with your initial submission.
Be aware that magazine pages are 5.5” wide and 8” tall, with 0.5” margins.
This means that the maximum horizontal width of your piece is 4.5”. The maximum vertical length of your piece is 7”. Regardless of the size of the image you submit, your piece will be scaled according to these measurements—you should keep this in mind when formatting your submissions.
Limited to 5 pages, but shorter pieces have a better chance of publication.
Have the title in the upper right corner of each page.
Please send it as an attachment.
