The Kentucky IEP Builder is a customized artificial intelligence resource designed to help Kentucky educators draft, review, and revise IEP components. It is available in two versions: one for ChatGPT and one for Google Gemini. Educators may choose the platform they already use or prefer.
Rather than beginning with a general AI chatbot and creating a detailed prompt from scratch, educators can use the Kentucky IEP Builder, which already includes instructions informed by Kentucky IEP guidance and record-review expectations. The tool is designed to request relevant student information and organize the educator’s data into a more complete, structured draft.
The Kentucky IEP Builder can support educators with:
Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance, including strengths, identified needs, current performance data, baseline information, and the adverse effect of the disability;
Measurable Annual Goals, including the essential components of a clearly written and measurable goal;
Specially Designed Instruction and Supplementary Aids and Services aligned with the student’s identified needs and annual goals;
Classroom-embedded progress-monitoring plans; and
Review and revision of existing IEP components to identify areas that may need clarification, stronger alignment, or additional data.
The tool reduces the amount of prompting educators must create independently, but it does not replace professional judgment. Educators remain responsible for verifying that every draft accurately reflects the individual student, current data, ARC decisions, district procedures, and Kentucky requirements.
A Custom GPT and a Google Gem are customized versions of an AI assistant. The creator provides the assistant with specific instructions, resources, expectations, and examples so users do not have to write a detailed prompt each time. The Kentucky IEP Builder has been configured specifically to support Kentucky educators in drafting and reviewing IEP components.
Educators will still enter the student-specific information, data, and educational needs. The Kentucky IEP Builder uses the information provided to create a structured starting draft. It does not access Infinite Campus, retrieve student records, make ARC decisions, or independently determine what belongs in an individual student’s IEP.

How to Use the Kentucky IEP Builder
Select the ChatGPT or Google Gemini version.
Sign in to the selected platform if prompted.
Choose the IEP component you want to draft, review, or revise.
Enter only fictional or fully de-identified student information.
Provide specific, current data, including numbers, data sources, and dates, rather than general descriptions.
Respond to any follow-up questions the Kentucky IEP Builder asks before it creates the draft.
Review and revise the draft carefully to ensure it accurately reflects the individual student, current data, ARC decisions, district procedures, and Kentucky requirements.
Do not copy AI-generated language into an official student record without professional review and approval through district procedures.
Protect Student Confidentiality
Use only fictional or fully de-identified student information. Do not enter student names, dates of birth, student identification numbers, parent names, addresses, or other personally identifiable information.
AI-generated content must always be reviewed and revised by the educator and ARC. The Kentucky IEP Builder supports drafting and review, but it does not replace teacher judgment, ARC decision-making, district procedures, legal guidance, or formal compliance review.
I would use “designed to support Kentucky-aligned and compliant IEP development” rather than describing the output itself as automatically compliant. Even with strong internal instructions and uploaded KDE guidance, the tool cannot guarantee compliance because that depends on accurate student data, individualization, implementation, and ARC decisions.
