Classroom Management

We use a variety of methods to nurture an effective learning environment.

Clip Chart

Each student has a clip on our classroom clip chart. Every morning everyone begins on green (Ready to Learn). As students display positive behaviors they may be asked to move their clip up the chart to blue, purple, or pink. Students ending the day on purple or pink will be rewarded with Jacket Stings (reward coupons). If a student chooses a negative behavior they will move their clip to yellow, orange and then red. Students may move up and down throughout the day. Students ending on yellow, orange, or red will have the reason noted on their behavior calendar (on the back of their green folder). Students ending on orange an red will have an additional consequence as follows:

  • orange-walk laps at recess
  • red-walk laps at recess and take home an "I Was on Red" form-this must be signed and returned to school the next day

I situations of severe behavior problems, Mrs. Shively may send a student to the office or make a phone calls to parents as needed.

Brag Tags

To reward both positive behavior and academic achievements our class uses brag tags. Every student has their own chain necklace that they collect paper tags on throughout the year. At the end of the school year they take the necklace home as a reminder their hard work. Brag tags can be earned for a variety of things including but not limited to:

  • Good Listening
  • Displaying Reading Stamina
  • Hard Work
  • Mastering Math Facts
  • Helping Classmates
  • Keeping Materials Organized and Work Area Neat
  • Being Responsible with Homework
  • Meeting Academic Goals
