March 2026
Will March come in like a lion or a lamb? While we may not be able to predict the weather, one thing is for sure—March is going to be an exciting and eventful month at WES! We have Read Across America Week, IREAD, Spring Break, Kindergarten Round-up, and the end of the third nine weeks all coming up. It's hard to believe we are already nearing three-fourths of the way through the school year! The third grading period ends on March 6th, and report cards will be sent home in Friday Folders on Friday, March 13th. Our Spring Break will be from March 16th-20th, and students will return to school on Monday, March 23rd. Upon our return, students in grades 3-5 will be preparing for ILEARN testing. As always, this time of year is busy, so be sure to check out the upcoming events and important information below. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out by phone at 765-544-3331 or by email at bgarrison@ses.k12.in.us.

All of our second grade students and any third or fourth graders that didn't pass IREAD last year will be taking the IREAD test during the week of March 2-6. This assessment tests student's basic reading proficiency including phonics and vocabulary as well as reading comprehension for literature and nonfiction text. State statutes require students to PASS this test in 3rd grade. If a student does not pass during the first test administration window, they are required to receive remediation in reading and take the test again before the end of their 3rd grade year. If a student still does not pass, the student may be required to participate in summer school, retained in third grade, provided a "Good Cause Exemption", or promoted to 4th grade where they will continue to take the test each year until they PASS. It is very important that your student is here during the testing window, is well rested, eats a good breakfast, and does their best on the test. If you have questions, please reach out to your child's teacher or contact the school administrator.
If you have children ready for preschool or kindergarten in August 2026, please plan on attending our meeting on March 25th from 5-6 p.m. at Waldron Elementary. We look forward to welcoming our new incoming students and families.
Read Across America Week
March 2-6
WES classes will participate in a Penny War during the week of March 23–27. All money raised will be donated to SCUFFY. Pennies and dollar bills will count as positive points, while silver coins will count as negative points. The class with the highest total points at the end of the week will win a prize. Start looking for that loose change!
