Small group counseling provides a supportive environment for students to express their thoughts and feelings about particular topics with their peers. These groups, generally comprised of 4-6 students, are short term. Groups are created based on data and parent or teacher referrals.
Examples of groups offered by Mrs. Runnebohm:
Worry Warriors- The goal of the group is to help group members to learn new skills, which will assist them in coping better.
Circle of Friends - This group will help identify expected and unexpected behaviors of social situations and to correctly read and identify social cues.
Be the Best Me- The focus of this group is to teach students ways to interact appropriately in class and with their peers.
Rising Stars- The goal of this group is to improve students’ attitudes, skills and knowledge about their learning style and related study strategies and improve test scores.
Temper Tamers: This group helps students understand what causes them to get angry and coping skills to cool off.
FISH- Families in separate homes is a group for students with divorced parents or parents living apart.
Problem Solvers- The goal of the conflict resolution group is to provide students with positive solutions to differences of opinion and interpersonal conflict.
Moving Forward- This group is for students who have parents/ loved ones who are incarcerated.
Memory Keepers- This group is to help guide children journey through the grieving process in a healthy and productive way.
Academic Advisement: Using grades and testing data, we will create groups to help students create goals for learning. We will learn about organization, study skills, and other academic tools for the school year.
