Newly elected Student Affairs Council (SAC) officers convened their inaugural press conference to discuss future plans for the school year 2023-2024 at Faith Campus Audio Visual Room on September 27. The event commenced with an opening remarks by Mr. Noel M. Menor, the school principal, emphasizing the importance of humility and servant leadership among elected officers. “Being elected as a leader entails the responsibility on your shoulders. You are called to serve, not to be served.... You have earned the trust of the voters, and you must not abuse it; it would be difficult to regain it when you lose it... Be servant leaders," the principal said.
Afterward, invited class mayors, club officers, and student journalists from The Edwardian Quill were given the opportunity to raise their questions to the SAC officers during the open forum. Both Junior and Senior High School councils share previews of their upcoming plans, which focus on improving campus facilities, student wellness, and strengthening Edwardian Student Clubs as they commit to include student body opinions when proposing future projects. “We will be holding different meetings, wherein we will also take into consideration the decisions of the different club members and class mayors,” said Denise Gayeta, SHS-SAC President.
Furthermore, the council acknowledges campus issues and pledges to reform the system through its initiatives, emphasizing its goals of extending beyond organizing events. “There is really a lack of resources in the school. As a council,.. ‘di lang puro events ‘yung gusto namin gawin, hindi lang puro concerts… We also want to change the system in the school, and this includes the resources and the facilities,” Gayeta shared. “I would want to break the stigma of the school being this boring and pressuring place. With our different plans and platforms,.. I would like to strengthen these,” added Crizaley Diane Nañez, JHS-SAC President.
Meanwhile, the officers share how they plan to address the situation of not having an SAC office. “We are coordinating with our moderator and the school leaders to lend us a specific place. For example, if we need to have an A.S.A.P. meeting, we have to reserve a specific room… If hindi available [sa] school, we also have our own meeting place outside of the school to ensure na hindi sagabal ang walang meeting office for us,” revealed Kate Magtangob, SHS-SAC Vice President. The event concludes with an oathtaking ceremony by the SAC officers, officially marking the beginning of their term.
