Synopsis:

Southeastern Players is pleased to reveal they will be presenting ANTIGONE by Sophocles and adapted by David Rush. Taken from Playscripts, " after a case of sibling rivalry culminates in civil war, King Creon of Thebes forbids anyone from burying the traitor who started it in this fresh and vibrant take on an ancient classic. When his niece Antigone, discontent to let her brother go without proper funeral rites, takes matters into her own hands, she sparks a family feud that pits father against son, sister against sister, and civil law against the gods".

In ANTIGONE, faced with corruption and greed, Antigone must choose between what is right and what is easy. In order to seek justice for the death and funeral rites of her brother, she must defy the the stereotypical role of women and her uncle, Creon. Which raises the question, what's more important to uphold - divine law or religious law?

Setting:

We will transport this show a post-apocalyptic Thebes, suffering from the aftermath of war. Walls are broken pieces of jagged wood nailed together. The only sign that life still exists here are the garments of the people hanging on a clothesline, trash strewn about, and the beautiful, maintained doors of Creon's palace.
