Day 1 homework: Read these Constitutional Amendments before practice on Thursday.
Day 2 homework: Read and annotate the first 4 pages of this packet.
Day 4 homework: Choose one speech in this packet to memorize (just the "excerpt" part).
Before memorizing your speech: Read the context note; Paraphrase the speaker’s central message in one sentence; Mark places where the speaker’s idea, tone, or audience changes; Underline words that deserve emphasis; Mark pauses with a slash; Look up any unfamiliar words. Your goal is not to imitate the original speaker. Make deliberate choices about pace, volume, emphasis, eye contact, posture, and tone based on your understanding of the passage. Do not watch or listen to a recording of the original speech.
Day 5 homework: Read and annotate this witness statement
Use the following annotation system:
O beside facts Avery personally observed
A beside assumptions or conclusions
? beside uncertainties or weaknesses
+ beside facts that strengthen Avery's identification
– beside facts that weaken Avery's identification
You will compose questions in class - do not bring prewritten questions to class.
