Roles
We want to preface this announcement by congratulating all of our students for their hard work over the last two months! Your dedication has shown itself in measurable improvement in the skills we've been practicing, and we are proud of all of you.
This rapid improvement means that the roles below are tentative; each student has the opportunity for advancement, or demotion, based on their performance as a member of the team. Some roles are assigned with a slash between two names; these were such close calls that we would like to see your performance over the next few weeks before we decide who is on the JV and who is the development team. JV and development attorneys have the same directs and crosses as the Varsity attorney of the same role (Opening, Attorney, and Closing). Development squad will compete one night during the JV competitions.
Homework:
Witnesses: Reread and annotate their own statement; identify 5–7 facts their side needs from them.
Trial attorneys: Reread their assigned direct witness and opposing cross witness; identify the purpose of each examination.
Opening/closing attorneys: Revisit the developing theory/theme.
Pretrial attorneys: Review the Day 11–12 case map; be ready to discuss the Condorville Ordinance (pp.14-15), the instructions for the Pretrial Hearing and Pretrial Sources (pp. 17-20), and the Lanzetta and Colten cases (pp.20-21).

Day 1 homework: Read these Constitutional Amendments before practice on Thursday.
Day 2 homework: Read and annotate the first 4 pages of this packet.
Day 4 homework: Choose one speech in this packet to memorize (just the "excerpt" part).
Day 5 homework: Read and annotate this witness statement
Day 6 homework: Review these objections and be ready for a quiz and a tournament!
Day 7 Homework: Annotate the Reyes Witness Statement, and review Chen's statement, in preparation for the Missing Camera direct & cross.
Day 8 Homework: Distributed Case packet! Students are to annotate the Fact Pattern and Charges.
Day 9 Homework: Complete your witness slide presentation with your group.
Day 10 Homework: Annotate 4 pretrial cases: United States v. O’Brien (p 20); Texas v. Johnson (p 21); Chicago v. Morales (p 22); and
Day 11 Homework: 1pg pretrial oral argument outline
Day 12 Homework: Review Witness Statements for a quiz.
Day 13 Homework: 1 pg Opening Statement for your assigned side, prepared for verbal presentation
Day 14 homework: DEPENDENT ON ROLE:

Which elements or issues can the witness address?
What three to five facts must be established?
Which facts are helpful but nonessential?

What credibility weakness must be addressed?
Does the witness introduce or explain an exhibit?
What is the witness' personality?
