As an editor of an award-winning high school news site with over 120 contributors, I led a team of approximately eight writers at a time. With this, I was able to improve my skills in leadership and communication as well as play a pivotal role in the transformation of new and developing writers into effective leaders.
At the beginning of the year, I organized meetings with each of my eight writers to go over their first articles written. Each meeting improved my communication and leadership, as I catered to each writer according to their interests. While focusing on coaching rather than fixing, I developed the skills of all my writers, which became apparent when they made fixes to their first articles and carried over their knowledge to improve the following articles significantly.
Throughout the year, I constantly made it a priority to provide quick and helpful feedback to all of my writers, whether it was through suggesting edits on their articles or coaching them on interview and photography tactics. This collaborative and supportive environment was instrumental in helping us tackle challenges, from tight deadlines to creative disagreements. By actively listening and responding thoughtfully, I was able to create a culture of mutual respect and trust, where every team member felt included and valued.
Under my leadership, our site not only maintained its award-winning status but also expanded its audience and scope. However, beyond these accolades, my most significant achievement was witnessing the growth of my team members. By creating a supportive and dynamic environment, I helped them realize their potential, thereby growing as a leader myself.

Plummeting California birth rates raise infertility concerns
This article, written by one of my writers, Chloe Taylor, focussed on the growing relations between education and stress levels and growing infertility. While initially written as a news article, I decided to publish it as a feature due to its narrative structure and effort. Upon initial submission, I promptly provided necessary edits to the feature photo, despite its difficulty related to the topic, the headline, and certain parts of the article's flow. Within a few hours, the necessary changes were made, displaying strong communication and leading to the publication of a strong article.
