ELECTIVE CLASSES/CLASES ELECTIVAS
Students are placed in core classes based on the SUHSD Placement Charts. Ninth-grade students must be enrolled in 6 classes, which include: 1) English, 2) Life Skills/Ethnic Studies, 3) Math, 4) Science, 5) Physical Education, and 6) Elective.
Students at SHS have two more subject area choices to complete course selection, Science and Physical Education (PE).
PE: Students have a choice between regular PE-1 and PE-Dance. If your student's choice is regular PE-1, nothing further needs to be done. If your student prefers PE-Dance, your student needs to enter it as an alternate elective. That will trigger the school to make the change.
Science: Students have a choice between Physics or Biology. Both courses are equal in terms of college preparedness and meet graduation requirements. Biology meets the life science requirement and Physics meets the physical science requirement. If your student's choice is Biology, nothing further needs to be done. If your student prefers Physics, your student needs to enter it as an alternate elective. That will trigger the school to make the change.
Please see the course catalog for course descriptions Link Here.
The majority of students have space on their schedule to take 1 elective as their 6th class.
Students' elective choices are listed below.
Students will select their electives in the online course registration Infinite Campus portal.
Students need to select their top three choices, in order of preference.
Students are eligible to take a seventh class if they have an IEP, are required to take a support class, or if they select one of the following approved electives from “Courses Allowed as a 7th Class,” listed below.
