It is fun and enjoyable to do things that you like but what happens when it becomes an addiction? Gaming addiction is widely known by people because of its impact on mental and social health but why are games so addictive and fun to play? There are multiple answers to this question, the most well known reason is because of dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that is widely spreaded throughout the body and controls many functions like sleep regulation, movement, memory, attention, nausea, motivation and the feeling to be rewarded. Because of the rewarding function, when we play games and when someone gives a compliment about something you did, dopamine makes you feel like that. So what does dopamine have something to do with gaming addiction? Like I said, dopamine gives a reward feeling and what is the easiest way to achieve that? Gaming.
Well, how do you cure gaming addiction? The answer is you can't, "what?" you might be thinking here's what I mean: you see, there are a lot of answers to this question so it’s hard to say if one answer is right or wrong but take a example;mental therapy, its been proved through tests that using mental therapy that was used for other mental patients on game addicts worked for a while, but some patients got addicted again. Another one is finding a new hobby, which is hard when you’re addicted to games. You see? All of these answers are vague and are very hard to achieve. Gaming is very similar to drugs because its so addictive and they both produce dopamine like i said in the 1st paragraph dopamine is very addictive if its used for good feelings so if you don't play for a while when you’re addicted you might get quick to anger and easy to stress but gaming addiction rehileberation camps keep children out of games and any internet devices for 30 days think how hard that can be even though it can be hard but it’s very effective because most of the students that go to rehilebration camps got out of their addiction but still, some kids got addicted again. So it’s true you cant cure gaming addiction but some methods work.
The covid-19 pandemic changes our lives drastically, since 2019 people have been quarantined, and governments have massive lockdowns. People that are in quarantine have turned to substance addiction like drugs and alcohol addiction and rewarding behaviors like gaming addiction to cope with their negative feelings. But is that a good choice? Well, it may be good if you won’t get addicted and if you're a adult with a lot of responsibility but adolescents from ages 10-19 dont have alot of responsibility and are likely to get addicted ,if the game is fun to them and some games influence little kids to pay tens of dollars to get nothing and if middle schoolers get addicted they sometimes even play in class time and because adolescents know about split screening some adolescents just swipe their gaming tab to the right or erases the tab so the teachers wont know. and because of virtual learning kids also dont pay attention and think about games.
my research was about how gaming addiction affects adolescents among the ages up to 4th grade and 5th grade and I did a servey, these are the results:
This question was about how much games they play every day. The highest percentage of kids chose 1-2 hours every day,the 2nd highest 1 hour,3rd highest 30 minuets and the 4th highst 2-3 hours
This question was about how offten they play games everyday supprisingly 19.6 percent of the people chose 2 times a weeek, 16.5 percent chose 16.5 times a week and 12.4 percent chose 7 times a week.
This question was about if they were happy when they played games 45.4 said yes I do feel happy and 37.1 percent said sometimes.
