Brightspace is SEO Scholar's learning management system. The platform hosts your curriculum materials, including syllabi, assignments, opening/closing assessments. You can submit homework, access grades and feedback from your instructors on Brightspace. Browse through the following topics:
Your username and password is the same as your G Suite account. The username will look something like yourname@seoscholars.org.
Sign in to your SEO Gmail at mail.google.com
Click on the nine small squares at the top right of the screen, next to the SEO logo.
Scroll down to the bottom of the menu that pops up.
Click on Brightspace and it will open in a separate tab.
Minibar: The minibar is always visible and helps you navigate Brightspace Learning Environment.
My Home (SEO Scholars Logo): Returns you to your organization's homepage. You can usually find important information from your organization on the homepage.
Course Selector: Use the course selector to access your courses. For easy access, you can pin your courses to the top of the list.
Messages (currently not in use): Notifies you about unread mail and instant messages from instructors and other learners.
Subscriptions: Notifies you about new blog posts, subscribed discussion forums, topics, and threads.
Updates: Notifies you about new and updated announcements, due dates and end dates, and grades.
Username: Allows you to make changes to your user profile, notifications, account settings, and log out.
Navbar: Provides links to course-specific tools, for example, Discussions, Assignments, and Quizzes. The navbar may change depending on your course.
Course Homepage: Provides quick access to important information related to the course, for example, announcements and calendar items. The course homepage for each course may be different.
You can change your password through your associated SEO Gmail account. If you are locked out of your account by following the directions here.
If your problem persists, email us at support@seoscholars.org and request that your password be reset.
Click on the envelope icon at the top right hand corner of your Brightspace homepage. This interface allows you to send emails, but responses will go directly to your associated SEO Gmail account.
On the top right hand corner in the home screen on Brightspace, click on your name. In the drop down menu, click Logout.
Log into Brightspace by clicking on the nine dots on your SEO Gmail inbox and choosing Brightspace or go to learn.seoscholars.org
All the courses you are currently enrolled in will appear.
To access a course, click on the course icon.
To access old courses that are no longer active, click View All Courses.
Follow the steps above to access a course. Click View All.
If you are still unable to find a course, contact us at support@seoscholars.org so we can enroll you.
The best way to contact your instructor is by emailing them from your SEO Gmail account.
From your SEO Gmail inbox, click Compose.
Once you start typing your instructor's name in the To box, their SEO Gmail should appear.
To easily access the courses you are enrolled in, you can pin them to the top of the Select a course list.
From the navbar, click Select a Course.
Type the name of the course that you want to pin or find it by searching in the Search for a course field.
Click the Pin icon beside the course.
You will find instructions below to submit assignments via Google Drive, or by taking a picture of your work and then uploading it to Brightspace. You are expected to submit any SEO homework via Brightspace. You will complete and submit most ELA assignments via a link to a Google Doc, whereas math assignments require you to submit a file or picture of your work. You can either watch a video or follow the written directions below to make either submission:
From the course, click Assignments and select the assignment you want to complete.
The assignment should have instructions that look like this:
Click on the link with the text Click here to save a copy to your Drive.
A new screen will appear, click Make a Copy.
Once you have completed your assignment in the document, navigate to the blue Share button on the top right hand side of the Google doc.
The share settings will say Restricted. Click on Change link to Sponsors for Educational Opportunity.
In the drop down menu under Viewer, choose Editor.
Click on Copy Link
Go back to the assignment on Brightspace.
Paste the link to the Google Doc in the Text Submission box.
Click Submit.
Go to the App Store
Search for Brightspace Pulse
Download and open the app and click Get Started
In the search bar, type learn.seoscholars.org
You will be prompted to log in with your SEO Gmail account
Once you login, you should be able to view all your courses
Click on the course, then the lesson and the homework assignment you want to submit your work to
Once you open the homework, a screen with the questions and instructions should come up, click on Add Attachments
In the drop down menu under Add Attachments, click Upload
You can then browse your phone for a picture of your work
Once the picture has loaded, click on Update
You may submit more than one picture
In your phone or computer's browser, type learn.seoscholars.org
You will be prompted to login through your SEO Gmail account
You might have to log out from your personal Gmail account if you are logged in
Your Brightspace homepage with your course enrollments should appear
Click on the course, then click on the sidebar menu from the top left hand side of the screen
Scroll down to the calendar and click on the Homework you want to submit your work to.
Once you open the homework, a screen with the questions and instructions should come up, click on Upload
You can then browse your phone for the picture of your work
Once the picture has loaded, click on Update
You may submit more than one picture
On the navbar, click Assignments.
From the Assignments page, locate your assignment, and click Unread in the Evaluation Status column.
From the View Feedback page, you can view your submission feedback, rubric assessment, and grade.
When you are finished viewing feedback, navigate back to the View Feedback page and click Done.
Tip: You can also view assignment feedback from Class Progress and Grades.
Under Content in a course, click on the quiz you want to take.
Read the instructions and details for the quiz, and when you're ready, click Start Quiz!
Answer each question. As you complete the question, the answer will automatically save. You can see which questions have saved answers in the Questions section of the quiz's left panel. You can also click the question number in the quiz's left panel to go back to the question.
To navigate between pages, click Next Page or Previous Page.
Click Go to Submit Quiz after you answer all quiz questions.
If you are not ready to submit the quiz, click the question number in the quiz's left panel to go back to the question or if you are ready to submit the quiz, click Submit Quiz.
You can sign up to receive immediate text or email notifications when a grade item is released or updated.
Note: You must set up a contact method before subscribing to notifications.
From your personal menu on the minibar, click Notifications.
Select if you want to receive Email or SMS notifications for the option Grades - grade item released or Grades - grade item updated.
Click Save.
On the navbar, click Discussions.
Click the topic where you want to create a thread.
Click Start a New Thread.
Enter a subject.
Enter your post.
You can stop here and click Post or set any of the following posting options:
To receive updates on the thread using your selected notification method, select Subscribe to this thread.
To post anonymously, select Post as Anonymous.
To attach a file, in the Attachments area, click Browse to locate the file that you want to attach.
Click Post. If the topic is moderated, your post does not appear until a moderator approves it.
On the navbar, click Discussions.
Locate the thread you want to reply to.
Do either of the following:
To reply to the main thread post, click Reply to Thread.
To reply to a particular post inside the thread, or click Reply.
Enter your reply in the HTML Editor. To include the original post’s text in your reply, click the Add original post text link. (If this option is already enabled by your course administrator, this message will not display.)
You can stop here and click Post or set any of the following options:
To receive updates on the thread using your selected notification method, select Subscribe to this thread.
To post anonymously, select Post as Anonymous.
To attach a file, in the Attachments area, click Browse to locate the file you want to attach.
Click Post.
You can access Brightspace from your phone browser, or download the app, called Brightspace Pulse.
Brightspace Pulse, an app available on both Android & iPhone, can help you stay connected and on track with your Brightspace courses. With the app you can do the following directly from your phone:
View all your course content
Submit assignments
See all the important dates and deadlines for all of your courses
Get alerts when new grades are received
Open the App Store on your device
Search for Brightspace Pulse
Click Get/Install
Open the Pulse App
Search for Sponsors for Educational Opportunity
On the login page use your SEO Gmail username and password to sign in
Once you log in, you should be able to view all your courses
Open Brightspace Pulse on your Phone.
Click on the course, then the lesson and the homework assignment you want to submit your work
Once you open the homework, a screen with the questions and instructions should come up, click on Add Attachments.
Choose the picture of your work from your phone's camera roll.
In the drop down menu under Add Attachments, click Upload.
From your program course on Brightspace, for e.g. "10th Grade Program," click on Qwickly Attendance on the navigation bar.
You will see a list of your Saturday attendance record for that semester.
Inform your Program Manager or email us at support@seoscholars.org if one of your attendance records on Qwickly is wrong.
