Getting a State ID
It is important when turning 18 to have a state issued ID if you do not yet have a driver’s license.
Reasons you need an ID: Getting a Job, Applying for a bank account, Applying for a credit card, Going to college, Traveling in the country, dealing with legal issues, etc.
What you need:
Social security card (original)
Birth Certificate (original)
School ID with your picture, your name, and birthdate
$33 for the ID
If you qualify for CalWorks, SSI, welfare services, you may be able to get a reduced fee ID for $8.
You need to request form DL 937 from your welfare benefits agency to obtain a reduced fee ID.
How to get State Issued ID:
Gather the documents needed
Go to DMV
Complete the form DL44 (Start application here)
Pay for your ID
Take ID Photo
