Prospective Senate Page Portal
The following information addresses the most commonly asked questions by prospective applicants and their families regarding the Senate Page Program. You are strongly encouraged to thoroughly consider this information before starting an application.
The Virginia General Assembly is a bicameral legislature. The House Page Program, administered by the House Clerk’s Office, is a separate program that requires completion of a different application. In addition, the selection process, program components and protocols for the House Page Program differ from the Senate.
Completing Your Senate Page Application
All components of the application must be completed by the applicant, with the assistance of parents/legal guardians, by the deadline stated within the application material. Applicants should make sure all components of their application are neat, legible and accurate.
It is also important to note that application components may change from year to year, and those changes may not go into effect until an application goes live.
Application requirements typically include the following:
Standard applicant information.
One essay question (applicants will have a choice of questions to answer).
One short answer question.
Two completed recommendation forms (see additional information below).
Before you begin
Make sure you know the correct Senate district in which you reside using the "Who's my Legislator?" search tool. Senate district numbers are different from House district numbers.
Do not use a school-issued e-mail address on your application. Those accounts typically block outside communication. Your application confirmation will be sent via e-mail.
Do not use a school-issued computer or tablet. Those devices often prevent uploading attachments to the application, due to firewalls and other settings.
Before You Submit Your Senate Page Application
Again, make sure the information you provide on your application is neat, legible and correct.
The most common mistakes made by applicants in recent years include attaching House forms to their Senate application. Applicants are encouraged to check and double check their application before submitting.
Recommendation Form
As you consider the people from whom you will request two completed recommendation forms, please keep in mind the following:
Your recommendation form should be completed by an adult who is not a member of your family. Forms from parents, aunts, uncles, etc. will be disqualified.
Your recommendation form should be completed by an adult who is knowledgeable of your abilities as a student, community volunteer, or member of a club to which you belong. Therefore, a teacher, leader of a local civic organization or school counselor would be three good examples.
You do not need a completed recommendation form or other "endorsement" from a Senator or Delegate for your Senate Page application. The House Page application may require a letter of recommendation from your Delegate.
The blank fields on a completed recommendation form should be typed or written with legible handwriting.
A letter of recommendation can not be substituted for a completed recommendation form.
Again, make sure the information you provide on your application is neat, legible and correct.

Do not submit more than one application.
Once you press the submit button, allow time for the system to process and accept your submission. Depending on your internet speed and size of attachments, it may take a few minutes. Please, be patient. A confirmation will appear, once the submission is complete.
If you made a mistake, please e-mail the correction to pageinfo@senate.virginia.gov. Staff will make the correction on the back end.
