This course offers a medium to explore, design and develop digital media products such as graphic design, web design, animation and game making.
This will involve technological practice to design and develop digital products such as a video game cover (Photoshop / Illustrator), computer mini-game (programming) and a simple website (HTML).
Students create interactive and creative projects using a wide variety of programs and methods.
Currently over the past three years we have been focusing mainly on Video Game design.
Video game design is the process of combing art, programming to design the gameplay, environment, storyline, and characters in an interactive medium.
The Video Game market is huge. As of 2022, New Zealand’s digital video games industry boosted revenue by almost 50% to a record $407 million over the past year, employing more than 1000 people for the first time and its still growing, so there are plenty of opportunities to work in this industry. Larger than the movie and music industries combined.
Additionally the course is designed to teach a wide range of skills including project management, teamwork, leadership, and self-directed learning.
At Selwyn, students can study Digital Technology at year 11 to 13 within the Technology curriculum.
