Last year Selma Unified provided a series of parent and family engagement activities as part of the Parent University initiative. On September 28, 2019 we held our first event, the Parent Conference.
Last year Selma Unified provided a series of parent and family engagement activities as part of the Parent University initiative. On September 28, 2019 we held our first event, the Parent Conference.
The Parent Conference brought to fruition the vision of Dr. Fisher, Dr. Sidhu and the board. This special event was honored with a City of Selma Proclamation, brought to us by Council Member Avalos. We were joined by staff and students that worked together to provide an excellent event for our parents and families. This included staff and students from:

Doctor's Academy
Fyzical Therapy
Proteus State Center
United Farm Workers
Selma High Leadership
Our prizes for the event were made possible by generous donations from district office personnel, Selma High FFA, Chaffee Zoo and Gilroy Gardens. Everyone was treated to a fantastic lunch catered by Street Corner Tacos.
An event of this scope requires extensive planning in order to successfully execute all aspects and Lupe Garcia, Mary Helen Ontiveros, Monica Ruiz, Jose Bedolla, Roque Martinez, David Guerrero, PJ Yount and Sabrina Cantu did a phenomenal job making this event possible. A very special thanks to Ignacio Ramirez, custodian, for all of his work before, during and after the event. Another special thanks to Zaira Ruiz, ALMS Yearbook, who was our event photographer.
Rounding out the day were our very special performances. Many thanks to our very own Selma High Band and Selma High Paisanos. Also many thanks to Steven Gonzalez, ALMS student, and the Way of the Fist for regaling us with their performances.
Parents overwhelmingly expressed how engaging and informative the workshops were. For that, a special recognition to all of our amazing presenters! On behalf of myself, Norma Barajas-Ruiz and Selma Unified, thank you all for participating in this event.
