The idea our group is suggesting to the school society, is selling snacks and quick food at the cafeteria. The reason why we think this may have a positive impact on the school is because from primary research, we are able to know that many of the students tend to become hungry during the morning classes. The fact that many of the students are still in the stage of growing up, taking breaks often and eating something may be necessary if teachers expect most students to be paying attention during their periods. So, one solution we came up with was providing food and snacks (eg. sandwiches, cookies, smoothies) at the cafeteria, in order to lessen the amount of times students may lose focus just because they are hungry.
This goal can be achieved by putting in effort on researching and persuading the school and the Caesar’s Kitchen community to agree and act on this idea. We are planning by the 25th of November to create a script for a video we will be recording, which will include all the information on why we chose to focus on this idea and how it will benefit the school community. Before getting to our final product idea, we came with multiple plans, such as doing a presentation to all people who will be working with us and/or doing a presentation for all the students, teachers, and faculty in order for us to have more supporters. We also thought about sending an (essay-like) email to everyone who may be involved (such as Mr. Lee and Mr. Mitchel) and discussing about our idea of selling foods, snacks, and drinks.
Our group talked with each other and came up in the end with our final choice of creating a slideshow video, and we also talked to other groups for peer feedbacks and they had also seemed that they supported our idea and that it would be best to create a video with a visual.
Our final idea for our product is to simply just use google slides with an appealing template so that it will have an attractive look, for our final. We are also putting in effort so that we will be able to start creating the slides by the 29th of November (the following class) and start recording on December 1st. When recording, we may use Screencastify to record our video with our faces with our voices, which we estimate that it will be about 3 minutes long, to send out to the teachers and the Caesar’s Kitchen community. In the end, by doing so, we may be able to be part of the solution to students becoming hungry and unengaged during the morning classes.
Success Criteria:
Include all information on why we chose to focus on this idea and how it will benefit the students
Video is two to four minutes long
Video includes our faces, along with the voice recording
Use an appealing template (four out of five people agreed)
No more than 50 words on the screen
Four out of five people agreed with our idea and said that the information we had (primary and secondary research) was enough
Make sure to have the script well split up between the members of the group for the video
Make sure to use polite wording, with complete sentences when talking, so that the faculty (including teachers and staff of Ceasar's Kitchen) will have a positive impression of us
Make sure to talk in a interesting way, to encourage the audience to agree with our idea
Only include relevant information, short and simple

Changes made along the way:
As we figured out that our video would be too long, when recording the video, we cut out some parts of our script so that the length would be between two to four minutes long
This would also follow one of the success criteria of only including relevant information
We changes our timeline to earlier dates, since we figured out that the video wouldn't be able to be complete by the specific day
Aimed to finish writing the script before class
Aimed to finish recording the video during class
Feedback from Others:
Positive Comments:
Slideshow was well organized, along with the video structure
Slideshow was under 50 words each frame and only had important information
Slideshow had an appealing look
Voice overs in video were loud and clear → provided clear understanding
Voiceovers were in a polite manner, and left an positive impression
Video included information on why this focused topic was chosen, and how it benefits the targeted people
I/we agree with this focused problem/topic, and I support the solution
Improvements/advices:
Explaining the specific target students would’ve made the project more detailed
The audio quality weren’t the best, a quiet space to record would improve the overall video/sound quality
A visualization of the primary and secondary research would’ve made the presentation more persuasive
Does the video include information on why we chose this topic?
Does the video include information on how our idea will benefit the students?
Is the video between two to four minutes?
Does the video include our faces, along with our voices?
Did we use an appealing template?
In each frame, are there less than 50 words (briefly)?
Do we have enough primary research?
Do we have enough secondary research?
Did all the members have equal amounts of parts?
Does the video seem persuadable?
Did all the members talk in a polite and interesting way?
Did we only include relevant information?
Any other feedback from people who responded (from form):
I think you guys should talk more loudly (same volume) so that we will be able to clearly hear more (3)
You guys should take the video in a more quiet place (2)
Explain more about specific audience/include information on specific target (2)
Include pictures/images
I think that you guys should have added more primary and secondary research
Less editing should be done
Explaining the specific target students can help make the project more detailed, and the audio quality weren’t the best so a quiet space to record would improve the overall video quality. Moreover, a display of the primary and secondary research would’ve made the focused topic more persuasive as well!
Impact that may have on audience:
I think it is hard to consider if our video had a positive impacts on the audience, since our final viewers are/were supposed to be the workers at the cafeteria and other faculty. But by looking at the feedback we got from the google form, I (and our group) believe that it is likely that our video had a positive impact on the audience, where many of the students who viewed it agreed that our idea is something that should be focused on, and that the advantages overweigh the conflicts that may become involved further on during the process. More specifically, I think that providing the audience with good impressions about our group and idea was done by: making the appearance in good quality (slideshow organized, video structure organized, under 50 words in each frame, only had important information, used appealing template), how we spoke (voice over was in polite manner - likely to leave positive impressions), and including specific information on our topic (video included information on why we focused on this topic, and how it benefits the targeted people - in this case, mainly the high school students). Furthermore, I think that by letting the students watch this video will definitely lead to more and more students (and possibly faculty) to agree with our idea and perhaps be able to becomes a reality. This also means that the more people know about this issue and idea we discussed on, it is likely that not only Seisen, but also other schools and departments to make our idea into reality, by selling foods, snacks, and drinks at the specific areas (especially campuses), which we can assume that it will have a positive impact/growth on the people involved (whether it may be education related or not).
Summary of Testing Methods and Reason(s) for Choosing it:
By looking back at the video while keeping the success criteria in mind, I believe that although there were some parts to improve on, the overall video and information quality was very high and was persuasive. Firstly thinking about the amount and context of the information, I believe that we were completely able to talk about why this issue was seen often between high schoolers and how our solution (selling food, snacks, and drinks at the cafeteria) will benefit the school community. Since this was one of the most important aspects, I think we were successful at including all necessary details in order to have the audience(s) agree with us in the end. Next, regarding the structure of the video [between two to four minutes long, includes faces with audio recording, uses appealing template, no more than 50 words on scree, only include relevant information - short and simple, include both primary and secondary research, etc.], I think my group was able to complete all the requirements, although some parts, the volume of our voices lacked due to the loud environment/space we recorded at (one of the improvements). Finally, focusing on the performances during the video [split up script/lines between the members of group, use polite wording/manner with complete sentences to provide positive impression, talk in interesting way, etc.] I think this was also well done, as we were clearly able to work together as a team well in order for this idea to work/go well.
Reflection:
Impact on target audience:
I think it is hard to consider if our video had a positive impacts on the audience, since our final viewers are/were supposed to be the workers at the cafeteria and other faculty. How the video could be improved:
As the feedback we got earlier explains, I think one of the most disappointing parts that could have definitely been fixed during the process of recording, was to talk more loudly (with the same volume) and to take the video in a more quiet area. Many of the responders had noted that down, which means that they had a difficult time to clearly hear and understand what we (or some of us) were saying throughout the video, leading to the possibility of audience not being able to understand our focused topic and why it is important (and can have a positive effect on the students and faculty). In addition, we could have used more images as this will help guide the audience to think in a certain way and also provide them a general idea of what our idea may look like if it becomes a reality. Another response we got was to talk about the specific target more in detail, in our case the workers at the cafeteria, since this would have provided the other viewers of the information on what and how we want to make change on. In other words, by including information and explanations of our specific audience would have lead to a higher chance of leaving a positive impression (and why our idea is important = more people who agree with us). Other people had also spotted that we were lacking the amount of primary and secondary research. Since this is one of the most important features of the video and can encourage the audience to agree with our idea more, next time if we do a similar task, it would be better to include our research information, especially secondary research (related to science and real life experiments). Another comment we got was about our editing, and they have said that we have done too much of it, resulting in some confusion throughout the video. Although we were not able to avoid this since our original recording was too long, next time, it may help the viewers understand our topic more if we spoke more clearly and loud, while keeping some space/time between 'paragraphs' during the video.
Reflection on process and whole unit:
In general, I feel like we were able to do an excellent work on our final video. This is because we were able to finish work on times where we aimed it to be finished by (for example to finish the script on a specific date) and shared the group work well with the group members. This means in other words, that we were able to use our time wisely (time management skills) and work well as a team (teamwork/communication skills) which developed some of our ATLs throughout this project. Personally, I feel like I had a fun time working on this unit where we got to interact with others through school work, both at and outside of school campus. One thing I would like to improve on for my next design project (personally), is to use more class time properly. What I mean by this and what I said earlier, I think that we all spent time on this project at home, instead of during class, which sometimes impacted our sleep schedules and finishing other assignments from other classes. Since sleep is becoming more and more important throughout the high school years, I think using class time more wisely, despite the fact that socializing with others is also important, may possibly improve my mental and physical health (which may have a positive effect on both my school work and personal activities).
I think one thing that could be changed for this unit, is to regularly check our works physically, whether it may be on the students' or teachers computer in case someone may be left behind. Despite the fact that most of us knows that this issue is commonly seen in our class, and that we are already high schoolers (and at the age where we have to take care of ourselves), doing so may help improve with the students' ATL skills, such as time management skills.
