Turning in writing assignments: Most times I prefer typed assignments to be printed out and turned in. If you are experiencing technical problems,(printer not working, no ink, computer not working, etc.) you must share it with me electronically by the deadline (adepalatis@seelosacademy.org) or on Google Classroom if there is an assignment for it. However, YOU MUST ALSO GIVE ME A NOTE FROM YOUR PARENTS THAT STATES YOU HAD DIFFICULTY. YOUR PARENTS MAY ALSO EMAIL ME, BUT IT MUST BE FROM THEIR EMAIL ADDRESS. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS PROCEDURE WILL RESULT IN A LATE PENALTY. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO REVISE/EDIT YOUR WORK. For example, if an assignment is due Monday, and you run into a problem Sunday; you must send it to me via Google/Google Classroom before 8:30 AM Monday. AN EMAIL OR NOTE MUST be given to me Monday also. Failure to turn in an excuse Monday will result in a 10% deduction. If there is no excuse Tuesday, another 10% will be deducted. This is to make certain that everyone has turned in work on time.
Assignment Policy: "Normal" circumstances--It is expected that an assignment is turned in on the due date.
Late assignments-- If a student misses a a daily independent work assignment, I will send them to another classroom to complete the assignment. I will call them back in when I have finished checking it with the class. S/he will still have a point deduction (either 1 or .5 point for daily work ) (Checking homework this way allows for important feedback. )
Late writing assignments or projects-- there will be a 10% point deduction for every day an assignment is late. I give plenty of time in class for writing assignments, so there is no excuse for not submitting in time.
For any type of assignment, I will not accept anything after 3 days.
Notes: I try to plan for 5-10 minutes at the end of class to finish homework.
(Writing assignments)
: In 6th grade students will bring home a draft that has been revised. They will ask an adult at home (junior in HS and older) to read the draft. Accompanying the draft is a feedback form. All the adult reviewer needs to do is offer feedback, then the student will decide what changes to make.
: In 7th grade, the students work on a year long portfolio assignment. There are 10 assignments that they must do on their own. There is a link for the portfolio requirements. The other mini projects will be done in class and graded as they come due. The 10 independent assignments will be graded when the final assignment is due. I heavily recommend and remind the students to work on the independent parts during holidays as there is some family involvement.
For illness or other circumstances, students will be given the same number of days absent to make up an assignment. Sometimes that is not enough, so I am open to give more time if necessary.
For anticipated days off, and if you are in my homeroom, I will assign a student to record assignments and collect any handouts. Upon return, the student should see me with any questions. If you are in 212, I will keep it for you. I do not give out assignments ahead of time because things arise that may cause the week's plans to be delayed. Additionally, I post information on my webpage.
