Read the book. You can check out this book for free on SORA, the SHS reading app. Watch this video to get started! If you prefer print books, you may also opt to order your book from Amazon or your favorite local bookseller.

Then choose from the activities below

All students must complete the Level 1 Pathway for their chosen book, but students can opt to complete Level 2 and or Level 3 for extra points on their English grade for first quarter in the fall!

Choose Your Pathway to Complete Summer Work!

Level 1 Activity for Pure Grit (required)

To complete Level 1, simply take Google quiz on the book. These quizzes will change every 2 weeks.

If you complete a quiz with a 8 or better score, then you will receive 5 pts on your English grade to start the year.

If you don't score an 8, then just wait for 2 weeks and try again! If students do not complete this level, they will take a Google quiz at school during the first week of classes in fall 2020.

Level 2 Activity for Pure Grit (optional)

Time to get creative!

Level 2 projects are optional and designed to encourage students to get creative. Students can:

  • Create a poster-size new book jacket for Pure Grit

  • Create a playlist of 10 songs that represent the book in some way and write a short explanation of why you chose each song

  • Write a 1 page fan fiction story that builds on some aspect of the story

Successful completion of a Level 2 project will be worth 20 points on your English grade to start the year.

Level 3 for Activity Pure Grit (optional)

Deep Dive!

Level 3 assignments are designed to offer an in-depth look at the book. To complete, you must take active reading notes.

These active reading note will help you write a 1-2 page essay that will answer the question:

How did the people in the story display their resilience in the face of difficult events?

Successful completion of a Level 3 project will be worth 40 points on your English grade to start the year.
