It is important to take time to talk with your children about what they are reading, no matter how old they are or what grade they are entering. Help your children develop strong reading habits and skills by using some of these conversation starters:
Online Reading and Audiobooks
Unite for Literacy provides free digital access to picture books, narrated in many languages.
International Children's Digital Library a collection of digital books that represent outstanding historical and contemporary books from throughout the world. Over 4000 digital books are included in 59 languages.
Teen Book Cloud is an online collection of ebooks and read-along chapter books, graphic novels, educational videos, and audio books! It can be accessed online using your Worcester Public Library card.
Storyline Online streams videos featuring celebrated actors reading children’s books alongside creatively produced illustrations. Readers include Viola Davis, Chris Pine, Lily Tomlin, Kevin Costner, Annette Bening, James Earl Jones, Betty White and dozens more.

Offline Language Arts Fun
Hold a book club! Read the same book as a friend or family member. Meet in person, over the phone, or through Google Hangouts to discuss what you read.
Research and write about a nonfiction topic of personal interest such as a country or animal of your choice.
Play a word game! Scrabble, Boggle, and hangman are all great games for building vocabulary and spelling skills.
