The Exemplary Leadership Programme (ELP)

The Exemplary Leadership Programme is a CPD opportunity for headteachers, deputy and assistant headteachers, featuring a blend of on-line webinars, conferences and visits to schools in the UK over one academic year. It is for all phases, contexts and settings, both mainstream and specialist. It works best when two or more senior leaders from one setting attend the course together, though this is not a requirement.

Agnes Thornton de Mauroy, assistant headteacher at Les Beaucamps who has been on the course this year writes:

‘The ELP program was a brilliant opportunity to hone my practice and my thinking as a leader in 3 different areas, behaviour and culture, curriculum, and implementation. Hearing from a range of experts has been extremely useful and the school visits have enabled me to think about how to implement new initiatives practically. What I enjoyed the most was doing the program with a fellow member of our leadership team and being able to discuss ideas with her and think about implementation in the long run.’

The course has been developed by a team of expert school leaders and educationalists. Its content is crafted and sequenced to ensure those who can effect whole-school change, in any school setting, can build their school leadership knowledge in three very specific domains, and will leave them empowered to enact it for secure and rapid impact:

Course fees and travel and accommodation in the UK are all paid for by the Education Office, though a claw back agreement will be in operation for participants who leave employment within States’ schools within two years of finishing.

National Professional Qualifications (NPQs)

Two NPQs will be available for Guernsey teachers in 2024/25:

Please remember that these new specialist NPQs are suitable for senior leaders as well as aspiring leaders. Having previously done the old style NPQSL does not mean that senior leaders would not benefit from developing their specialist knowledge further in one of these two areas.

To apply for any of these qualifications:

Complete this internal form by Monday 3rd June 2024.  You will be sent further instructions once funding for your place has been confirmed.

Fees and the Clawback agreement

We ask all those taking these courses to sign a claw back agreement, which requires them to remain in employment within the state education system for 2 academic years after completion of the course, or pay back a percentage of the course fees.  An example of the NPQ clawback agreement is here, and the ELP clawback agreement will be very similar.
