Intravenous (IV) involves the introduction of fluids, medications, vitamins, and minerals directly into the bloodstream via a catheter placed into a vein. There are several benefits to this route as opposed to other routes. The effects can be nearly immediate, because there is no absorption through the gastrointestinal tract, and the medications go to the blood stream immediately. Some medications are a "first pass." Basically, they are filtered through the liver or other organs, reducing the amount of drug that is available to be absorbed by the body. The IV access used by our team here at second wind allows you to feel better quicker than you could by just drinking fluids and taking medication by mouth.
Call, text, or book an appointment online. Once you have an appointment setup, one of our nurses will contact you, so please have a valid phone number and e-mail when booking online. We will call and discuss what services you want. We require that you fill out a medical history form prior to or during your visit. We then come to your preferred location, discuss your medical history, take your vital signs, and then provide services. If you choose IV (intravenous) therapy, we place a needle guided catheter into one of your veins that delivers IV fluids and preferred medications. This process typically takes one hour. If you choose an I.M. (intramuscular) injection, we will simply inject the preferred medication into your muscle. We will take vital signs post infusion or injection and insure that there are no issues before we leave.
There is always a risk of allergic reaction, irritation at the IV insertion site, or other specific reactions to some drugs and medications. These are not risks we take lightly at Second Wind, and our nurses are all certified in Advance Cardiac Life Support by the American Heart Association (AHA). Our staff are also CPR certified through AHA. We carry some common medications to treat allergic reactions and will refer you to emergency medical care as appropriate.

You will either receive your medication I.V. (in the vein) or I.M. (in the muscle.) I.V. fluids with medications normally last between 45 minutes to one hour. I.M. medications are a direct shot into a large muscle,
