Introduction to Resilient Therapy

This course is an Introduction to Resilient Therapy and putting it into practice. It is aimed at anyone supporting children, young people and families keen to understand resilience. For example, community family workers, teachers/school staff, social workers, early years workers, learning mentors, parents/carers, personal advisors, youth workers and so on. No previous experience of Resilient Therapy needed however attending a Resilience Get Together session prior to attendance will improve your experience of this training.

Overview This workshop offers an introduction to the concept of resilience and Resilient Therapy and provides the opportunity to consider those things we can do to cushion children more broadly, from the worst effects of adversity. It introduces our approach - a straightforward and strategic way of working with children, young people and families that builds capacity to manage life's challenges more resiliently - because overcoming adversity, whilst also potentially changing or even dramatically transforming (aspects of) that adversity is what matters.

The benefits?  You will leave the workshop having built on your understanding of the resilience evidence base, know why some children and young people beat the odds better than others, learnt more about the Resilience Framework (also referred to within the Blackpool Families Rock model of practice), be able to identify resilience building principles and techniques, have considered how to link resilience with your own life or work and learnt about a practical approach that aims to turn resilience theory into practice for all to use.

This one day course is delivered either face to face or 2 x online sessions - both sessions are mandatory. All you need is wi-fi!

Academic Resilience Approach

This workshop is aimed at anyone supporting children, young people and families in schools who are keen to understand how to build resilience in school communities. For example, Headteachers, Governors, SENCO’s, teachers and support staff.

Ideally you would have attended the Introduction to Resilient Therapy course first, but it's not essential.

Overview This workshop provides the opportunity to understand more about what resilience is and how school communities can build resilience and cushion people from the worst effects of adversity. You will learn the definitions of resilience, why they matter and what the resilience research tells us, risk and protective factors and how to use these, a framework for building resilience with children and families in a whole school community, and an explanation of the Academic Resiience Approach and how it works with examples from schools using it.

The benefits?  You will have greater understanding which will help school establish systems to build 'resilience approaches' that support disadvantaged pupils over time, benefit all pupils from a school-wide approach to increasing academic resilience, raise achievement, offer 'quick wins' that can be implemented immediately, help identify pupils who are at risk of not fulfilling their academic potential, and provide practical approaches to help pupils do better than might be expected.

By the end of the workshop you will have built on your understanding of the resilience evidence base, know why and how some children and young people beat the odds better than others, know how to identify children more at risk within your school, know what could be done to build resilience within the school community and learn how to put the Academic Resilience Approach into practice.

This one day course is delivered as 2 x online sessions - both sessions are mandatory. All you need is wi-fi!

Practitioner Resilience

This workshop is aimed at practitioners, both newly qualified and experienced, students, community workers, volunteers and public sector workers and explores your own resilience.

Overview A recent study funded by the National Institute of Health Research reported links between staff well-being and service user outcomes (Maben et al 2012).  It will also offer an insight into “What are the best approaches to support practitioner resilience?’

The workshop will look at evidence based models that support and deepen understanding of practice, including Resilient Therapy. It will consider a social justice approach in relation to practice and the organisation and introduce tools such as the Supervision Framework. It will also explore strategies to help support the development of your own resilience and self-care.

The benefits? The workshop will help you to understand the theory in relation to Practitioner Resilience and help you make connections with who are personally and how this impacts on your practice. It will help you recognise your strengths and limitations as a practitioner and become more confident in using tools and strategies for self-care.

During the session, there will be reflection and discussion surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
